The current box I have designed is tuned to roughly 30Hz right now. Sundown has said that they recommend 33Hz. What are the pros and cons to tuning below what is recommended? I am still new to the ported world. I have always built sealed enclosures. Quiet Posted April 16, 2012 Report Posted April 16, 2012 Tuning low can help you reach lower. It can also help you control cone movement at lower frequencies. You may want to increase your enclosure volume to compensate, tho. I model in WinISD to see my response curve. I'm running a RF 15" sub and I'm 7hz below their recommended port and about .66 cubes bigger. Sounds pretty good to me. 2007 Pacifica Rebuild. Less quiet. Still not loud.

Tuning a little lower may allow you to reach lower frequencies with reduced peak output, while tuning a little higher may give more output with reduced low freq response. . . Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.
