CLNSHVNnDRAGGN Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 I posted a while back looking for suggestions on designing a box but didn't get any help so I figured I would give Torres' a shot and see what I could come up with. After playing with the numbers here's what I ended up with: So how does that look? It's going to be for 2 12" TC Sounds TC1000's in a 2g Mitsubishi Eclipse (res freq 38-42hz) with the subs firing up and port back. www.facebook.com/BILLatDivineCreationsPhoto He was taunting me. He's all like "come at me bro!" So I'm like "I'm coming at you bro!" And he's like "hey, fuck you" *chomp*. Then I killed it. I win. ^^^ you have truly taken being a lazy fuck to a new level tonight, an MRE. WOW
john253a Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 you didn't fill it out properly it should look a bit like this
CLNSHVNnDRAGGN Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 Thanks. I hadn't used it before and was just guessing which is why I asked here. so, if I do the port in the middle how would I get the 26" length? Would I just make it T shaped or would it be better to do an L port on one side or do one long port coming out the side? If the L port or side port does it matter what side it's on? www.facebook.com/BILLatDivineCreationsPhoto He was taunting me. He's all like "come at me bro!" So I'm like "I'm coming at you bro!" Cashdollar2009 Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 The "L" is going to be easier to build and calculate correctly. And theoretically speaking, the further the port is from the meter in your given application, the louder. But typically even for daily driver setups, port on the driver's side is what you typically see done. On 6/30/2011 at 1:11 AM, 'Ray' said: Acoustical energy is free. Electrical energy is not.
CLNSHVNnDRAGGN Posted April 18, 2012 Author Report Posted April 18, 2012 Without worrying about ease of building (I have plenty of experience with wood working and have access to a full wood shop) is the "L" going to get me the best results? It's just in my daily driver so I'm not looking compete or anything but once I build this and get it in it's staying there so I can focus on my truck. Also, you say theoretically the further the port is from the meter the louder so since I'm going to be the only "meter" for it, would it be better to have it on the passenger side or will it not make a difference? www.facebook.com/BILLatDivineCreationsPhoto He was taunting me. Cashdollar2009 Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Well the woodworking isn't really the difficult part, it's making the calculations and all of the little possibilities to have uneven loading issues etc. And as far as port placement, even if you weren't metering it, i'd still recommend port on the driver's side. I have done all of my applications with the exception of one with the port on the driver's side. So technically I cannot conclude through personal experience that port on the driver's side is scientifically the correct way to go, but I am sure there are various reasons why 99% of trunk installs continue to use this orientation with continuous success. So from your sketch, i'd choose option number two, except flipped 180*. A simple small way to think about the first option (T-Shaped Port) would be as the air is being pushed out of the enclosure, just think about as each chamber disperses into their own short tunnel and meet, the air from each side would be fighting as it went into the part of the port exiting the box. Maybe just a minor inefficiency, but still. You would need a round in each side and seperate the port chambers until they were flowing in the same direction, and this would make calculating tuning a little more difficult. CLNSHVNnDRAGGN Posted April 19, 2012 Author Report Posted April 19, 2012 Thanks again. L port on drivers side it is unless someone comes in here and has a convincing argument against it. www.facebook.com/BILLatDivineCreationsPhoto He was taunting me. He's all like "come at me bro!"
