Purplehaze Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Okay, so I have 4 Skar VVX 15's and a DC 5.0K, and I'm trying to install them into a 2002 PT Cruiser, (The Kickin' Cruiser). I really wanna do a 4th order, my goals are hairtricks and +50 on music. But honestly numbers don't mean that much, I want a wicked demo machine that sounds awesome on music. I have tried to get a professional design, and I got nothing. So, I've been trying to design it on my own. I now have the design finished, but I am really unsure of it, since I have never designed and built a bandpass before. So if one of you guys who knows his shit could at least check it out for me, and see what you think, I would really appreciate it. Here is what I came up with: Two separate boxes, one for the sealed, one for the ported. They join at the back of the ported, front of the sealed, which would be the baffle holding the subs. *** Extra layer inside the ported section for flush mount. They will both be the same width, but different heights, to allow them to fit. Bracing will be internal and external. And the port wall will be 3 layers thick, everything else 2 layers of 3/4" birch. Ported section: Internal - 12.04ft^3 L - 16" W - 39" H - 38.5" Ported section: External *L - 17.5" W - 42" H - 41.5" Sealed section: Internal - 6.06ft^3 L - 10" W - 39" H - 31.5" Sealed section: External L - 11.5" W - 42" H - 34.5" The port: 14" x 14" x 8" 196 in^2 of port area 16.28 in^2 of port area per ft Tuning 47 - 48hz Here are the screen shots from Torres. Ported: Sealed: I am not good with sketch-up, so I can't "show" you what I mean. But if necessary I can draw it on paper... I just wanted to be double checked, before I start building. If I messed up, please tell me, it wont hurt my feelings. And thank you very much for any help I may get! CJ18 Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 PM mazdaspl on here. Jay is damn good at what he does. Not sure what he would charge, but you get a full sketch up with all of the dimensions that you will need to make a cut sheet. He has designed all of mine and put a bunch of other designs I have come up with into a 3d model for me to see what it would look like.
CJ18 Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 From first glance, you have 1.5 sealed and 3 ported per sub. That is the same ratio I have in my truck for my XLs and it works pretty good for me. I would drop the tuning down a bit to around 43-45, but the beauty of a 4th is that you an easily adjust your tuning. I will say that if you want a low end air machine, shrink the port down to 12-14in2 per ft3. That worked pretty well in one I built for 8 level 3 15s.
