98' Ford Escort Zx2 - Beginning of a Rebuild

Recommended Posts

Look at you a show off now :lol2: .Good job on the comp and like what you've done on this. Now that I'm back from Colorado I'll get back on mine and you need more :detail: .lol

I have a DC lvl 4 dual 2 12" on the way right now. all work is stopped until my car runs again :( I had plans to finish the trunk and carpet the false floor

fuel pump is fine

spark plugs are fine

I'm not too car savy :/

What does it do when you turn it over.Check the fuel pressure valve which is located behind the injector close to the belt cover. It has a tire valve stem like cap on it.If you or someone hasn't figured it out if you don't mind I'll help you just let me know. The sub is coming to me first right I'll break it in and give ya a review lol.

there was fuel pressure the first time I pished that pin in. I tried later and it didn't squirt.... so idk what that means. It wasn't blocked before but now it is??? I'm going out to get a compression tester to check if the timing belt is busted. the belt isn't snapped in half but it's possible that it could be missing some teeth :( thanks for the help. I've been posting on other zx2 forums and they all say the timing belt, but before I rip that out I want to look into everything else

Duh forgot the reason for checking the pressure valve. After you have turned the engine over push the pin in on the relief valve.Let me know how much fuel sprays out and if it is narrow or a wide dispersement of fuel. This will check the total fuel system for any ideas as where to go from here.Sorry if you have done this already or if you know this already.

Ok,I just posted right when you did lol.Give me a minute and check some of my notes on this cause the X's I've worked on had luckily not been timing related. That is a pain in the butt in a big way imoa.Have you checked the fuel filter and regulator that is allot cheaper for sure. The neighbors zx had fuel problems too and it turned out to be simple filter and the vacuum line connection to the regulator was busted. So maybe you'll get lucky and it'll turn out simple. The pressure bleed off on the fuel system has nothing to do with timing belt.More with a possible regulator or injectors but fuel filters have caused weired things on these cars. But if it is fuel related it won't be to hard to track down the source. If the guys on the zx forum don't have the info you need my manuals should have some of it.The cool thing someone always knows more than what we know so that makes it easier to get things fixed.I love working on cars and done for a few years personal, track and shop but like I said someone knows more.

when it stopped working it didn't sputter or slowly quit, it just stopped when I was driving. electronics were still working. I don't know what most of those things are that you listed. I'm a car engine super noob and if I need to do anything really extensive then I'll probably just take it into the shop to get it done. It's a PITA because I'm broke and taking classes and home for me is 6 hours away.

I'll give that I try. I haven't tried it since emptying it a while ago. I just tried it, and it was a thin stream

Cool when it cranked did act like it was wanting to start or just flat crank with no speed increase due to engine trying to start. If that car don't need fuel line disconnect tools pull the filter off and blow through it.But you should notice before you take off if it is bad.Unless something is diff on your car it should have nothing to do with the timing belt at this point. It has a electronic fuel sender in the trunk not on the block.

Dude that sucks I was hoping to help you save some money and time.Well I've been around racing and street cars most of my life so it's second nature for me.Not everyone is that way just like not all of us have the skills that Mr. Meade has.Being broke don't help either.I'm having to get a new cat for my escort now it pluged up from the head blowing up and thats a 300 dollar bill with me doing the work.At least it gives me time to tear into it more lol.

It didn't really act like it was going to start anytime soon, not even close actually. It just continued spinning and spinning without starting. I'll look into that, I'm not really sure where that is located under the hood. I hope it's not the coil box
