img Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I've been lurking around the forums for quite some time now and thought it was time to get a build thread up for my latest project.Installs I've already had in my Audi:2 15" Fi BTLs run off an Atomic 5kwrms amp, which was burping high 40s straight after being installed with stiff subsThen I downsized to just 1 15" Fi BTL - initially run off a Sundown SAZ1500Dv1, then a Rockford Fosgate T20001Bd and lastly a Ground Zero GZNA 1.2500DXII - this managed a flat 145db+Which got stripped out and sold off leaving the boot looking quite empty bringing me back to 0db lol Audi A4 Avant Dual 210a Alts - Spl Dynamics D6 - 2 x Fi SP4 15 Boot Install

img Posted May 11, 2012 Author Report Posted May 11, 2012 Some info/specs on the stuff I already have. The car is a 2004 Audi A4 (B6) 1.9TDI Sport (PD130 AVF). It remains largely unmodified in the engine and bodywork department. The headunit is an Alpine 9887R with an iPod hidden away in the glovebox to hold most of my songs I changed out the front speakers originally for some CDT CL61 (iirc) but some how they decided to die unexpectedly and replaced them with a set of Ground Zero GZUC 16SQ powered nicely by a Crystal CAM200.2. The amp attached to an old box ..and a few pics of the front speakers when I was installing them The rear speakers remain untouched, but I'm considering changing them soon. Over in the UK we don't really have that many aftermarket alt companies, given the fact most of our engines are half the size of the ones in America so don't really have the space/power to be turning over 500a worth of alts. Luckily there has been a certain 210a alt (which I believe is made by Mistubishi) that has been proven to put out 260a+ at 2krpm engine speed and a respectable 170a at idle. This alt has been known to replace the standard alt on many VAG engines with little modification, in my case it involved the offsetting the pulley by a few mm. I also have an external regulator fitted to this alternator. In terms of cabling 90% of the wires run through my car are made by Knukonceptz. More specifically the power wires are 0gauge Fleks. This includes TB3 and a single run from the front to the back. There's still a lot of work to be done on the car/install to get it where I want it be, but I still have a fair few pictures to release....when the time's right Audi A4 Avant Dual 210a Alts - Spl Dynamics D6 - 2 x Fi SP4 15 Boot Install

img Posted May 14, 2012 Author Report Posted May 14, 2012 The first steps that I took with the new project was to strengthen the power supply. I already had 1 "210a" alt but I knew that whatever I was going to run next would probably be more demanding. I got in touch with some of the big alt companies over in America for pricing and to see what was possible with my application. It was clear that the best route would be to install a second alt somewhere in the engine bay. I was lucky that my air con system hadn't been functioning for quite some time, the condenser at the front had been damaged, so this was an easy sacrifice. I'd made some enquiries locally to try find someone who would be willing to retrofit a second alt in the place of the aircon pump but I came to quick conclusion that I'd have to travel further afield. I knew of a shop down in London (approx 200 miles away) that was known for supplying alternators and could now offer a fitting service. I gave them a call and after a lengthy discussing we decided to get the car booked in and make the journey down to get the work done. A nice and early 5am start Goddamn traffic Finally I landed at Grove Autoparts at around 9.45am and work began straight away. After about 10 minutes of unbolting and fiddling about the air con pump was removed A view from above Audi A4 Avant Dual 210a Alts - Spl Dynamics D6 - 2 x Fi SP4 15 Boot Install

img Posted May 15, 2012 Author Report Posted May 15, 2012 Whilst I was there I spotted another car in the bay that was waiting to get worked on. It's a mk2 VW Golf VR6 walled with 4 Soundstream X3 subs run off 2 huuuge Soundstream 15000D amps, alongside a load of mids and highs. It's running a 16v system from memory to the sub amps and 12v to the rest of the car. Didn't get any good pics of the inside unfortunately. In the boot it's also got a mixer, for some off the cuff mixing I imagine, and all sorts of lazers/strobe lights. You can see the standard alt to the left with 2 what seem to be 180a alts tucked in underneath on the right along with an external reg. I'd spotted the car before but with different equipment, after a little searching I found some older vids of it: Audi A4 Avant Dual 210a Alts - Spl Dynamics D6 - 2 x Fi SP4 15 Boot Install
