Lol, well I'll give y'all the benefit of the doubt and drop some teaser pics of current scores up...

I'd guesstimate those scores are being hit with around 600wrms per sub, voltage drop is literally non-existent, which even when I was running 2kwrms I'd get little dips now and again.

The car will be going back to the installer for the week, when it returns it should be running full power!

Another video of some rear end flex

Now to the voltage drop, this is with 1 210a alt, a D3400 up front and another 2 in the back using the chassis ground and a single run of kk fleks 0 gauge tinned ofc for positive. Engine idling, no revs applied what so ever, playing Decafs take on Nuvole Bianche which does hit pretty hard at 32, 36, 40 and 48hz at full tilts (35 out of 35 on the headunit)

As you can see from the voltage drop the amp is having a pretty easy time, it's not drawing that much current. Once the car is back and playing with "full" power the second alt should be fully connected and running and there will also be a dedicated earth run and second positive run connected up.

More vids?

Thought I'd bump this up with a few updates.

First real casualty of bass...

I've ordered some new goodies along side a replacement for the above amp (used for my front end) which should make for a good update soon.

As for scores it is playing very flat, the filters need some slight adjustments but for now I'm more than happy. Only issue here is when doing burps from a CD is I can make it skip and reset the track after volume 30. Once I have some solid full tilt scores I'll share them on here.

Besides the above I have a few things left that I want to get done. I will be having some very strong trims made to seal off the area around and under the box, I do have some trims fitted atm but I'm dislodging them with ease and even cracking them in areas.

Check back for more updates soon!

PS The voltage is still holding up very well - vids will be uploaded in due course!

Right, where do I start.

It all started when one night the drive belt some how managed to free itself whilst I was out and about. Upon closer inspection the problem was bigger than I first thought, the second alt itself has freed itself from the car and was sat happily by itself on the undertray. It was towed away to a VAG specialist who got it refitted but did say there was something not quite right with the brackets. I dropped Sonnie @ Grove Autoparts a line and he was really concerned, he wanted to get his hands on the car ASAP to get it sorted. Whilst I agreed with him this wasn't something I could drop everything for and go down to get done owing to work commitments, the earliest I could make the trip would be sometime in the new year. I went away, gave the alt some stick with spending a fair amount of time burping tones and all seemed ok - until later that night when the belt came away again but this time it wasn't whilst booming and it shredded itself. Again the alt had managed to come off from the engine. Car was towed back to the garage and I spoke to Sonnie, it was agreed that a trip to Grove couldn't be put off any longer, he had to see it to diagnose what was wrong and get it sorted. I asked the garage to put a new shorter belt on to miss out the second, disconnect all the wiring and remove the second alt in preparation for a trip to London. I picked up the car and noticed they hadn't followed my instructions, whilst the new belt missed out the second alt only parts of the wiring were disconnected and the alt itself was firmly in place. I didn't have time to get it sorted so had to drive down like this.

Off I set (yesterday) at 4am, I'd managed to get very close to the end of the M1 near London when I heard a great big thud. I had to immediately pull over as it didn't sound healthy at all. The second alt had once again got itself free, hit the undertray with enough force to try take that with it and bounced around on the tarmac a few times. I could see the alt was quite damaged but it was still attached to the regulator wiring and looked like a bit of a pig to remove. I'm thankful that ShaqG was there to help out, he tore through some quite thick cable wiring, freed up all the wiring from tightly fastened cable ties and got the alt from under the car (having a lowered car didn't help!) with no tools, just his bare hands. I let Sonnie know, he said not to worry, just take it easy and get to his in one piece.

Upon arrival I handed him the alt and he was surprised at the damage to the bracket itself, somehow the 10mm steel had been sheered, the welds on the bracket were fine which should have been a weakspot, it looked like the steel must have had an existing fault in it. A plan of action was made, either new totally different brackets would need making or modifications to the existing bracket. The blacksmith who made this bracket wasn't in so we had to use another welding firm that is located on the same industrial estate, who came and took away the bracket and alt to get started on. I was curious about what was going to happen about the now damaged alt I had, Sonnie simply said they'd supply with a BRAND NEW replacement, whilst sorting this out they double checked all the wiring to make sure the charging system was efficient as it could be and got on to ordering in a new replacement Gatorback belt.

The fabricator handed the alt and bracket back, he'd now made a single piece bracket where as before there where several different parts to it. A test fit looked like it was all good to go, the belt lined up as it should have and the bracket held the alt sufficiently. Once the engine was started and running Sonnie noticed a slight bit of movement in the alt, now that there just one single bracket the alt wasn't as stable. His suggestion was to make some supporting brackets for the alt purely for stability, the current bracket was happy holding the weight of the alt but there were less points of contact. It was around 5pm by now, we'd spent around 6 hours at Grove so far, a lot of which had at least one person working on the car, however his team cracked on making up some metal strips without hesitation and decided the best place to attach them to was the engine mount just behind the alt. After a little drive with the new straps on we noticed a distinct rumbling between 1-2krpm and a vibration through the steering at idle. The engine mount just wasn't a viable point for the supports used, a quick rethink and the team were back on the job reattaching the support brackets to a common support bolt used by the power steering pump.

An hour and a half later and it was all sorted again, this time the engine was running extremely smooth and the alt seemed to be happily in position - which was a big relief as it was knocking on 7pm now, even though Sonnie had said to me before coming down he would make time for me whenever I came even if it meant opening on a Sunday, pushing back other customers cars or staying behind late into the night, I knew that the workers must have been pretty tired by now.

Now this is the part that surprises me the most. After everything was wrapped up, car put back together and we were ready to leave I asked Sonnie how much I owed him. His reply was simple "nothing" - that's a brand new alt and Gatorback belt, around 8 man hours of work with up to 4 people working at once, a fair bit of custom fabricating and some general checks on the electrics totally FREE. That is what you call after care.

He was very understanding about my position, having to spend 9-10 hours driving getting to and from his place and the fact none of this should have happened but IMO he went above and beyond what I would have expected. He was very welcoming, once again offered us a car to go out and about in whilst mine was being worked on, even offered to take us down somewhere to get some decent grub. At one point we wanted somewhere warm to sit and relax, he chucked us the keys to a Mercedes which we could start up and sit down in - enjoying the delights of London radio whilst keeping warm. I will without hesitation recommend Sonnie and Grove Autoparts to anyone who needs any work relating to alternators, starter motors or general rotating electrics. When Sonnie is involved the standard of work and care is very high.

For the tldr crew amongst us - second alt bracket broke - went to London where Sonnie (Grove Autoparts) looked at it, got the bracket modified and supplied with a new alt FREE OF CHARGE - Grove Autoparts/Sonnie are the people to see if you need help with alternators/starter motors/rotating electrics.

Now some pics, not many but enough to supplement the above...
