Off with the heads. The gasket look a little dicey, but I don't think it failed just yet. I'll replace it anyhow obviously.

1024.jpg?md=1341967745000

And here's the issue.Oil pooling in cylinder number 3. No surprise. It is seeping around the piston, had a pretty good pool in there after a little while.

1024.jpg?md=1341967769000

It's really easy to tell where it went wrong.

1024.jpg?md=1341967776000

The front bank looks good. The middle cylinder just looks a tad funny because of the lighting.

1024.jpg?md=1341967783000

This thing probably weighs about 150 lbs after all this has been removed. It's amazingly lightweight. No extra stuff at all.

1024.jpg?md=1341967790000]

My collection spot.

1024.jpg?md=1341967797000

Next step is to split the block in half (Yes it is two pieces bolted together top and bottom style. Japanese engineers are crazy like that)

Anyhow thats all there is. Not much but something to chew on for all y'all.

even if I had those tools I probably wouldn't know where to start lol. that heat is rough man, here in Erie, PA it hasn't been too bad lately

Lucky! And check out the next section haha. It's actually not that bad. If you had a Hanes manual you'd do fine. This is my first time actually disassembling past the camshafts, so I'm learning too.

Took apart the crankcase today. It actually splits in two. This is Porsche's input on the engine, something we Probe guys like to tout around. It is very convenient, I'll say that.

Here's the three pieces together

Two pieces.

Last piece.

A good look at the crankcase.

Aaaaaand Here's the Problem!

Well, most people don't seem to be interested in this sort of thing, but I'll post anyhow....

The junk engine I picked up yesterday. My buddy wanted to learn about engines (he want to be a mechanic he decided like a month ago) so he's gonna help me out on this thing. I give him pointers and explain how everything works, and he helps me out. Pretty sweet deal.

He helped me pull it from the car yesterday, took a good 4 hours, even with the owner of the car helping us as well. These cars are a PITA.

START TIME: 2:00 pm central. Full engine all together.

#2 is all bent up. I get five good rods, i'm a happy guy.

1024.jpg?md=1342484316000

Everything from this engine

END TIME: 6:15 pm central. Beat that.

Rebuild starts as soon as my new gaskets get in. Probably Wednesday. All I needed was one single rod. I'm going to sell the heads and whatnot.

I'm in for the motor build!

My audio build turned into a motor build for a while too. You can't drive it and listen to the tunes without a motor! :D

so it got a new camshaft? I want to watch this build, but I like the audio part more because I know what is going on :P rebuild??? any teasers?

haha nope nothing to do with a camshaft. A connecting rod is bent. Attaches the piston to the crankshaft in laymans terms. Sorry about all the mechanical stuff, trust me I'd rather be doing that too. I enjoy this too though.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Glad you're interested in the guts of the operation, it's more critical than people think.

Got my gaskets today, so the rebuild begins tomorrow. I'm gonna have to rig a piston ring compressor somehow, but other than that it isn't tooo bad from here on out. It's just finicky because every single bolt needs to be torqued a certain amount, and in a certain order. Pics will be on the way tomorrow if I get enough worthwhile.

I was like WOAH when I saw that your block comes apart. That is definitely a different creature.

Any word on what caused the piston rod bend?
