My Probe Build! Time for something new. Like paint, for example.

Are you going to machine the cylinders and heads or just slap it all back together with just new rings and valves?

The cylinders are perfect. The engine has about 40k on it, so there's no need for that. I will resurface the heads, but honestly that probably isn't necessary either. There won't be any new rings or valves either.

Got my gaskets today, so the rebuild begins tomorrow. I'm gonna have to rig a piston ring compressor somehow, but other than that it isn't tooo bad from here on out. It's just finicky because every single bolt needs to be torqued a certain amount, and in a certain order. Pics will be on the way tomorrow if I get enough worthwhile.

I was like WOAH when I saw that your block comes apart. That is definitely a different creature.

Any word on what caused the piston rod bend?

It was definitely caused by my intake sucking in water. Water doesn't compress, so something had to give. In this case it just bent the snot out of the connecting rod. Not a big deal, but it puts undo stress on the bearings and that knocking noise is annoying as hell. It would have ran forever as it was.

Well, so it's been a while.

Long story short college hit in september and I had no time for anything. I still don't but I'm making big plans for the summer. What I do have is a little extra cash, so I've been experimenting with a few different setups

My old IDSPLs have officially been retired to home theatre service (Their suspensions are waaaay too old and soft now for big power, and I don't want to ruin them) and newls is the proud new owner of my 100HC. I've had no system since february, and it's killing me though.

So I picked up the making for what I figured woul dbe some temporary bump: an RE SXx 18" d2

Anyhow I found myself actually quite liking the sub! It's nice and stiff, pretty hefty, and the d2 is easy to work with.

So I shopped around for a 1k amp, almost bought a lanzar 1000.1, a concept cd2410, a bb2400, a few others. Anyhow last week I ran into a good deal on ebay and ended up buying too much. So here you have it: Three Recoil Audio Red 1000.1s. Sorry for the crappy resolution, I don't have a good camera and I have a dumbphone.

I want to put this 18 and one of those amps in for temporary testing and experimentation. I'm going to properly deaden the fornt half of the car. But only the front half! Because the back half will be sealed off behind the front seats! That will be a long itme coming, but eventually I plan to have three SXx 18" subs walled off on these three amps, o rperhpas others depending if I can consilidate to one amp. I want to run mids and highs in the doors off either an MB Quart or Powerbass 4 and 2 channel. Because they're black.

But first! I need to paint my car like hardcore. It WILL BE HAPPENING at the end of May. Like guaranteed. The plan is a low gloss black with an offset white stripe that my buddy (an art major) is going to do some crazy detailing on in more black. The windows will get a proper tint, and a few nicks and gouges are going to be taken care of.

I had 4 - 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect subs in my Probe when I had it. That thing was CRAZY LOUD. Hatchback's give you the best 'bang' for your buck, SPL wise.

You hit the nail on the head. Out of 4, two are smoked. One on initial hook-up, one after about 30 minutes of play. Guess you get what you pay for. Lesson learned haha. They did have some balls while the lasted though.

Well, here's a little catch up. I've been finally getting back into the swing of things after school and Utah. Priority numero uno: Paint.

TONS of bodywork though, because I wanted to start doing this sort of thing right the first time.
