Best speaker brand for "high bass"

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am currently in the process of revamping my system. I attempted to do it last summer when i knew nothing about car audio, and it did sound quite decent. I now realize that there is alot more potential. As of now, there are JBL Grand Touring 5x7's up front and in the rear. In the trunk is a Pioneer 12" sub. The powerplant behind the whole deal is a 1200w Crunch amp, which gets the job done quite well.

My problem with the system is the bass coming from the speakers. The only way i can get the speakers to sound well at high volumes is setting the HPF to the lowest setting, which on the amp is 60 hz. If i set the crossover to Full, the speakers sound good until about half volume. After that it is complete garbage. The "bottoming out" just kill the sound if you know what i mean. And for any of you who have the thought in their head, I have in fact set my gains properly with my trusty oscilloscope.

I know speakers are capable of reproducing crisp and clear mids, because my friend has a 2011 Lancer with the oem RF system. When a song with good mids is played, your legs get a massage :D I believe he has 6.5 Punch components up front, and 6.5 coaxials in the rear. Its all stock, but Rockford Fosgate made the speakers.

Now i can get to my question after describing my situation. My car is a '99 Sable, and it has the abnormal 5x7 speaker size. I plan to get some 5x7/6x8 to 6.5 adapters so i can throw a decent set of components up front.

I know nothing about manufacturers and their reputation in terms of sound reproduction. Based on what some of you have experienced, what would your recommendation be for me? I think JBL doesn't have good bass reproduction.

Thanks in advance.

The 1200w crunch is a 4-channel amp producing about 500w rms total. The rear channels are bridged at 4 ohms producing about 200-250w rms. The front channels are set up to run 4 speakers, so each speaker should be getting around 55w rms each if wired at 2 ohms. The stock headunit is indeed installed, but I have achieved an RCA output by tapping into the circuitry within one of the control boxes.

his car and speakers are different than your sable with jbls just like said above

get a separate amp for the sub will help with sound quality

most speakers are not meant for much under 60-80hz

are these your speakers if they are they don't like anything under 50hz

like get a mono amp. for best results. . . . but usually you can set the front and rear filters seperatly. . . so set the front at 60 like you said. and the rear to like idk 80 for lpf and that should do it yeah? whats the problem here. sorry if im just not understanding

mainly the speakers aren't built to handle the lows which gives you the bottoming out

the sub is meant for the bass not the speakers and the crossovers sound about right find a happy medium for the sub lpf so it sorta evens out with the speakers

srry i was blunt i am terrible at explaining things :/

also make sure you don't go below the speaker crossover otherwise you may be missing a few notes
