Dang, that was legal theft. My '79 was a northern truck so most of the metal isn't great or even good but it ran and was something I could work on. The '81 on the other hand, was a steal of a deal. Got a 305 crate with less than 80k and a built top end, separate mallory cap & coil, centerlines, new suspension/rear end, and a number of other things for 400. Not to mention the metal is in good shape and it had the original owners manual and window sticker in the glove box. Steua
i have a question. how do you calculate using sonotubes in the corners for a tline The calculation is fairly easy, just find the circumference based on the radius/diameter of the corner(s) you're using and divide it by 2 or 4, depending on whether the line is doing a 90* or 180* turn. You can also just draw it out to keep the width of the port the same around the corner and visually see the line it needs to follow. Make sense? My dad gave me the idea to use formica (like laminate for counter tops and cabinets) rather than sonotube since it's very thin, smooth, and flexible. Went to a cabinet shop and got some scrap pieces really cheap today. Going to be using that on this instead. Both of my elks have edelbrock 650s and I hate them with a passion, they're easy to tune but not as responsive as I like. You said you never got to drop the 400 in, but did you get to drive it at all? As for the sonotube/port length thing, I didn't feel like I explained it well so I made something that should make more sense. To find how much length the corner will give to the port, you would use half the radius in the pic so the effective port length of said corner would be about 5.5". Hope it helps. If you have any other questions about it, I'll do my best to help you understand. I wouldn't be surprised since there's almost no decent weight behind the rear axle, makes me hesitant to build up the 350.
