mofoflexin Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 ok i plan on running two mechman 270 alternators and was woundering how i should wire them. should i just take both hot wires and run straight to the battier under the hood? realy not sure want to be 100% postive lol... and also would i need anything else like a voltage reglator? i seen them in alot of peoples rides its a little blue one suppose to be the best one to get but cant find it no were. any help would realy be helpful thanks....
kickass audio Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Look up how to do the big-3. Just run 1/0 positive from EACH alt to the positive of the battery under your hood. Then if the alt has a stud on the casing get a run of 1/0 for the ground on the alt and run that to the negative terminal on your battery. Then run 1/0 to the frame (or if its a unibody construction the strut tower bolt) with no paint on the area you bolt to and then connect that to the negative terminal on your battery. As for the regulator it depends on what kind of alt you get. Some mechman units you pay extra and get an external voltage regulator which makes the alt run cooler and have a little more steady voltage but other ones are built in. You just need to get the adapter for the alt from mechman and extend the wires from one alt to the other where the turn on and regulator plug is on the stock alternator. And idk what kind of vehicle you are putting this in but some newer vehicles have current loops that the alternators positive wire run through to detect how much power is being drawn and how high to keep the voltage to try and save on fuel economy.
