I've never understood why ppl use 3 subs, only odd number of subs setups I see, when it will give you a weird ohm load. Only amp I could see working with that is a Slash series from JL since they are 1.5-4ohms stable with the same amount of power at any load.

Space is an issue some times. Better running 3 right size subs in the enclosure, then cramming 4 that require more airspace, and sounding like shit due to lack of space.

Also running 3 subs, You can wire lower then, say maybe .7 instead of .5, and not increase the risk of blowing your amp as much.

That is my theoretical answer.
