Is it alright to do this?

Recommended Posts

Today I just got my DD-1, and just set my gains on my bass amp, and discovered my headunit distorts at 35 outta 35, but my speakers sounded like crap past 30 since I'm on headunit power for the mid's and highs, and I usually listen to 28, so I decided to set the gain at 29 instead of 34, cause at 34, I wasn't enjoying my sub when I am at 28, so setting the gain at 29 has me enjoy my sub, and I don't plan on going past 29 really whether for daily or demo.

Gain was set with -5 db 40 hz test track since my songs don't go past -5db, and the amp seems to run a bit cooler than before when I set it by ear, and the gain knob was a little less then when I set the gains by ear.

Now the question is, is it ok to set the gains at a desired volume instead of the maximum undistorted volume?

I do plan on retuning when I get a mids and highs amp.
