diesel truck alternator rpm?

so im just getting back in to the car audio scene since selling my old truck. planning on building a new box for my 2 15" RE SX's to go in my 2000 dodge ram 2500 cummins.. my question is since it's a diesel, it runs at alot lower RPM then a regular Gas truck.. would the alternator keep up? my last truck ( 98' 1500 ) ran mysetup at .5ohms on a stock bat and a kinetik hc1400 with very low voltage drop, i plan on being the same except 2 stock batteries and the kinetik.. was just curious on the alternator situation.. thanks!

Driving my 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 MEGA cab with the 5.7 hemi.

Audio: Two 10" Alpine Type R's ( 1000rms models )

Hifonics BRZ 2400.1D @ .5 ohm

Two Kinetic 1400 batteries ( soon to have XS power under hood )

Tsunami 1/0 Awg wire throughout truck.

Stock Infinity 7 speaker system ( Junk ) soon to be replaced, probably all Alpine.

Exterior: 17"Dick cepek rims with 33" Toyo MT tires

Bushwacker fender flares

Magnaflow true duel exhaust

LED tail lights with Projector headlights

Plasti-dip fun coming soon!

your truck has a 136 amp alt. it should work, but i'd still keep an eye on the voltage regardless of how well the system worked in your last car

oh i plan on keeping a close eye on it.. will be upgrading parts in the future too. just was wondering how the alt would keep up with much lower idle RPM compared to my last truck.

well im sure the manufacturer has taken into account the lower idle speed, and compensated for it with different sized pullies.

yes makes sence then. well either way i'll be keeping a close eye on it and upgrading as i go along. thanks for answering the silly question of mine lol

It's true- dodge does take pulley ratio and RPM into account.

The problem, is that your sub amp alone could draw as much as 200 amps, plus the truck needs 45 amps or so to run. A 136 AMP 3 PHASE alternator is going to be killing itself to keep up.

If you want to provide your amp with the current it needs, and stay in an efficient voltage range, I would reccomend upgrading the alt. We have a 240 amp 6 phase unit for that truck that is specially designed for the lower RPM of the Cummins engine. Shoot me an e-mail if you want a quote: [email protected]
