I just bought a VW Passat and want to put coilovers on it. My question is when the coilovers are installed I'll need an alignment, but do I need to get an alignment done everytime I adjust the coilovers up or down?

Right, but do I need to have the alignment re-done everytime I lower or raise the car with the coilovers?

Technically you should get an alignment whenever you adjust them. However If you do what Hunter said and mark the normal height on the coilovers you can just put them back to normal, using the marks as reference, and the alignment will still be good.

Whenever you change height, you want a realignment. When you change the dampening, you don't need an alignment.
