HO ALT not an option, what else can I do?

Hi guys

I am in a slightly difficult situation wherein I have a truck (Tata Safari) that has absolutely NO aftermarket support.

I am going to be running a 1K WRMS front stage and a Fi N2 with about 2.5-3K going into it.

I do not have the option of upgrading the alternator as nobody makes one for my car, and since I live in India, it is not practical for me to experiment with alts from mechman or dc power ets designed for other cars..( I know of two people who run mechman here, but as far as i know it required some work to get them going properly and to get them installed)

I am slightly lucky that my stock alt does 135A instead of a lower number.

I have already done the BIG3 Upgrade with 2 runs of 0 gauge wire.

What else can I do to help support my electrical load.

I was thinking of adding 2-3 banks of these bad boys in addition to 1 or two 150 ah batteries

Ultracapacitor Diesel Engine Battery Starter Booster Car Ultra/Super Capacitor | eBay

Each bank works out to be 370 farad which i believe is quite a bit.

So does anyone have any inputs on if this would work? Or what else can I do?

Highlighting makes your post hard to read. Have you contacted anyone about making a custom alt?

Youre only other option is a big bank of batteries. XS 3100's or something.

Who have you looked at for making an alt? Have you tried emailing Mike Singer - Singer Alts. No one else makes an alt for my truck besides crappy ebay ones. He is the only one that would make one when I emailed around. Shipping to India would suck but you could see if he can squeeze it in an international flat rate box

I think theyre pretty neat. When the water runs down your crack as you let one out... its like shitting in a crockpot.

Sorry about the highlight, it was accidental.

I dont have access to XS power either :(

Honestly I have not contacted anyone for building me an alternator, have just read on the subject a bit online. I will try emailing him and see what can be done. The thing I am worried about is, If i retain the stock casing, the alt might overheat, if i get a bigger casing, it might not fit.

Yea. You might wanna talk to him and see. WOrst case scenario you end up where you are right now.. looking for another solution. Do you get access to any AGM batteries.

Yes I can get maintenance free AGM deep cycle batteries that are intended for indoor use with inverters.

Do you feel the 1100 farad of capacitance I will have will help reduce my voltage drops by a lot? I do not plan on playing any test tones/sine waves

RodeoSport? You also have one of those?

Best bet is to try to find someone to build a custom one or if you have the room in the engine bay see if you can simply fab up a place for a second stock alt.

With a couple large batts and that much capacitance I bet you have zero voltage drop on the power you describe unless you play full tilt steady bass lines for a really long time

Yeah I have a 2000 LSE ( kept in canada )with over 250k and still running strong.

Unfortunately nobody here makes custom ones here, and I am not too sure getting one made in the states without the builder having the Truck to measure off of will result in a hassle free install.

I am really Hoping that the Caps and a 300ah battery bank manages to be a big enough band aid, because those caps are not cheap, and when i take into account shipping etc, Il be in for $700 on just the caps. That is about the same as the alt would cost me. But im scared that the alt might not fit without requiring a lot of custom fab work.

Also would have helped if I mentioned this before. I never plan on playing full tilt for more than 10-15 mins at the most.

It should help. I would go with a large bank of those Deep cycles then the capacitors second unless you have enough room to do both. I bet you can get rid of most of your voltage drop by doing that. You arent running an insane amount of power and music is alot different than tones.

I would try the Batteries alone first. If it doesnt aid the drop than last resort to Caps. Purely on the cost alone.

Do you have room for a second alt?

If you do and are capable of fabricating something up then you could get a gm one wire alt at a much reduced cost to buy but not obviously to have shipped.
