MD7786
So i called a local battery shop that rebuilds alternators and was told any type/brand could be put in any car as long as there is enough room. Dont really have the money to spend on a mechman 240 amp alt and nobody around can wire mine up. Its a 2001 camry. Has anyone done this before or know of a certain alt that they could rebuild to use for mine.
Kranny
making a stock case alt output more power, will increase heat dramatically. custom alts from mechman/dc power utilize casings that have vastly improved cooling capabilities. yeah any type of alt can fit almost any car, but that will require complete custom steel mounting brackets (made from scratch). MD7786
Ok so ho do you think a 140 amp mechman alt will keep my voltage up high enough. Even if i went up to 2000 watts one day?
MD7786
And what should my volts be sitting at while pounding.
Tarball
I suggest saving up for a quality HO alt. The old saying of "you get what you pay for" very much applies to every part of you electrical system when it comes to car audio. Alt/Wire/Batt(s) is the foundation of your entire system. If you want to run stock or like stock alt I suggest you stay bellow 1000w rms. If you want to one day go up to 2000+ dont waste your money on 1/2 an upgrade now only to need a quality hi amp alt later. Do it right the first time. What gear are you currently running ? CURRENT SYSTEM: Alternator: Stock alt on mids/highs Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v Batteries: (2) XS D1400s Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks Headunit: 80-PRS Sub Amp: DC 5.0k Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal. Mids & Highs Amp: CT125.4 Active Components: Mids RE XXX 6.5c Highs - 3 RE XXX tweeters per side(A pillar) Noise Control: Damplifier Pro all over the cab. MD7786
Now is a jl 1000/1 mono with a rebuilt 12w7 built up to a 1200 watt 15. Rebuilt by team psi. I may want to throw like 2 12s later on instead of the 15 but $700 is alot of money now for a alt. I just found a email from a guy at mechman i talked to awhile back and its like $325 for a 240 amp so i may go with that. But is there a certain ratio to go buy? Tarball
"Ideally" you want to have an alt(s) that can put out more amps than the total amp draw of your electrical system. including car running with accessories, mids and highs amps, sub amps, HIDs, power converter, CB gear, etc etc. Achieving this isn't always practical or possible and so people will often resort to a large battery bank so the system can pull from there and not drop voltage much when under heavy load. Music is dynamic so you wont be pulling peak amps all the time. Tarball
that alt + big 3 should carry you for a while. What tye of wire are you running ? OFC, CCA?
