LiftedFord Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 Hey guys, wasnt sure where to post this. But i have a 2008 f-250, wanted to start adding a system step by step. Already have installed a Pioneer AVH8400-BH. Along with HAT Imagine 6.5 in the front door. Now im looking to add some subs, i have been talking to ram-designs about a box for 4 of the sundown 8's or possibly 6. Looking to do about 2500 watts on this setup. This is my first time using a diesel as my platform though and im not sure what i need to do to the electrical, i recently added 2 new batteries (optima i believe, i can check though) but does anyone know what else i need to do to make my electrical stable for at least 2500 watts?
Guest Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 what alt do you have in right now? and is the 2500 your peak or RMS, sometimes people say it and they mean peak. Im gonna guess you mean RMS. also what batteries are you running.

So i will check tomorrow morning. And i mean 2500 watts rms. I have a sundown saz-2500 i was thinking about using for this build, originally planned to sell it off but figured it would work well with the new SA 8'S

SWIFT Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 Go ahead and get a alternator now so you dont have to worry about it moving forward. I went down the same road and I can tell you that a 2500w amp will have significant voltage drop. I just recently pulled both my Redtops out and put in XS 3400's up front and rear. In your case I would upgrade alternator (Mechman is my choice) and add one xs D3100 to the rear while keeping the Redtops up front. Upgrade all wiring and add 1/0 runs from the alt to battery, then from battery to battery, and add multiple grounds. Although my setup is much larger than you are planning this will give you a good idea. Have a tool box/ 60 gallon fuel tank in the bed. But ill definitely check into the big 3 as well as a h/o alt. I checked DC the other day and alll they offer is a 180 amp alternator, ill check with the other companies but would 180 be enough if that is all they offer?

When does a system start requiring upgrades such as alternators and all that? Was thinking i could do like a 1200 watt amp to begin with along with the subs and box and the big 3 upgrade. And then as i get the money to get a new alternator and batteries, etc. add a bigger amp. Would a 1200-1500 watt amp need a h/o alternator and xs batteries up front and all that or would the big 3 suffice until money came about? SWIFT- Did you ever do a build log on that truck? That thing is badass, you dont really see many f-250 with big systems like that. Everything ive came across online is usually just a 10" or a 12" behind or under the seat.
