DD 1512 S4 - Box size help!

Hey guys,

Need a little advice on what box i should be looking at for my Digital Designs 1512 S4 sub.

Its in a very small box right now (About 1.2 Cubic feet), and judging by the specs on the DD site it should be more like 2.5 Cubic feet, and also ported?

Does anyone have a design that could be usefull to me?

Cheers :)

yes. 2.4-2.6 cubes. 15-16.5 sq of port per cube which comes out to be 37-40 sq in of port. how low of music do you want to play. what frequency do you want to go down to? tune to 36-38 to give you an f3 point of around ~28hz then whatever your car does for it. or tune lower for a lower f3

Aweaome, cheers for that.

A local car audio store told me 3 cubes, but I remember seeing 2.5 on the DD site.

Are you able to pm me a picture of a box you can recommend? Even draw it in MSpaint or take a pic of a drawing. I just want to get a good idea for what I'm going to build to.

So here is a suggestion for a port/subs front/back adequate for a trunk car:

Enclosure Specifications:

Fb = 36 Hz

Vb = 2.5 ft^3

External Height = 15 in

External Width = 28.5 in

External Depth = 18 in

Port Width = 3 in

Cut Sheet List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.

* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

Front = 24 3/4 x 13 1/2

Back = 28 1/2 x 13 1/2

Left & Right Sides:

Side 1 = 16 1/2 x 13 1/2

Side 2 = 17 1/4 x 13 1/2

Top & Bottom = 28 1/2 x 18

L Port Internal Assembly Parts:

Front to Back = 13 1/2 x 13 1/2

Extension = 9 x 13 1/2

If it is not going to a trunk car or have any questions let me know.

Awesome, thanks for that! One last thing, will it matter where the 12" hole for the sub is cut?

very stupid question im sure but I wont know unless i ask....

1. what is displacement

2. what program do you use to do a drawing like those i see posted ??

The reason im asking is I have an avalanche and i would like to do a stealth box...i seen the one on JL site and way too freaking much...then i saw another that is a mid gate replacement prefab box that is geared towards 10 inch to 15 inch subs ported or not your choice....I really love the sound of the Sundown SA 10's but from what i saw the specs require .5 cube of space in a sealed enclosure for each sub...The prefab has specs of 1.5 cube per side....So that is not going to work....

I would like the functionality of the midgate to be retained...I sometimes need to fold it to utilize the full bed of the avalanche...other wise i would just do a real cool design like have the subs in the bed with a plexiglass insert with LED lights and the amps in an enclosure up top...but I live in Michigan and i think the weather may get too cold for that kind of equipment out in the elements even if under a cover....

sorry for hijacking your thread...I do apologize...

Place it as shown, as a general rule the sub should be away from the internal end of the port.
