Fiberglass is strong in curves and bends but in the relatively flat parts it is not strong. It is also alot more expensive to build with than wood. bassface Posted September 20, 2012 Report Share Posted September 20, 2012 You need to make sure it doesnt flex, probably around 10 layers of glass plus bracing. Ive read that 3/8" thick fiberglass is equal in strength to 3/4 mdf. So I usually go 1/2" thick fiberglass minimum. Some people say fiberglass has a higher resonance than mdf.
