First time taking a stock Z1000 to the drag strip

Recommended Posts

I've drag raced bikes before and I can honestly say nothing wants to wheelie as bad as this bike. Hoping to practice some more and get it in the very low 10's maybe a 9.99 or faster :D

COMPLETELY stock height and length. Only mod is slip ons.

Yes it's a '69. I've got a 73 in the forum garage as well. Click on "view garage" under my post counts and interests etc. You can also click on the pictures there to make them bigger.

Yeah I've been working on it for a while now. I'm doing a "soft" restore in a way. It was fine but I'm redoing the motor, I already redid all the electrical, fuel system completely redone, audio is coming, and paint will soon be triple black. Those are my plans at least, you know how that works out :P.

Pretty good time for a stock bike, get some straps for the front tripple tree so that its not lowered all the time, a soupys fully adjustable rear lowering link so you can change it as much as youd like to dial in. Full exhaust, PCV or bazzaz fuel controler and slip the clutch a little less should get you down to mid 9s or better. Hard to tell in the video but coming out from the dig it seems your rpms dropped a bit low, if you can get the clutch out a little quicker while keeping the wheel down your rpms should stay a little higher in the power band. Does the z1000 have a cable or hydraulic clutch?

Edit: i see the cable on left hand side answered my own question :P

Everythings in the attic or garage since the truck was sold last year. New build should be coming soon in a dodge cummins smile.gif

The only reason it wasn't strapped was because It was a total "hey let's go to the track today and take the bike". I would lower, stretch, etc to the bike but it would ruin the bike. It was designed to be a dirt bike on the street with the way it looks and performs so I'm just going to keep it that way. I just bought slip-ons because I want to be able to screw off on the bike and not have neighbors calling for a loud bike which is really nice :P.

I launched the bike as hard as it could without wheelie-ing :/. But yeah it was faster than anyone else's stock Z1000's on forums and youtube etc. My dad guessed I would run an 11.3 (the next fastest quarter mile for one on youtube is an 11.5), and the first run was a 10.72:).

I looked at a ZX10 today but playing with some numbers I think I'm going to get the new ZX14R. I have buddies running low 9's from the factory so I'm thinking lowered, stretched, exhaust, power commander, some serious mapping, and other little things will easily put me in the 8's.
