Arod45 Posted September 27, 2012 Report Share Posted September 27, 2012 I have a 03 Tahoe with a DD m2 and today when I tried to start it, it wouldnt. The alternator copper is now black. RobertR Posted September 28, 2012 Report Share Posted September 28, 2012 The copper winding in alternators will get dirty and look burnt over time on any vehicle. So unless your alternater was clean yesterday and burnt looking to day I wouldnt be to concerned. I would follow andrews advice and chect it with a DMM. Without knowing what battery you have.......it should be around 12.6 with the car. No idea what it should be when its started since I have no idea what alternator you have.
