I think people tune between 50 and 60hz for 4th orders. If the fs is in the 40's the it may have trouble with the lows but mid 30s and up it should do fine. and yeah 15 sqin of port PER cube ft, is what you are looking for. so about 30 sq inch for you box.

That would be Zebra Duck Tape. ;-) Again, its my ladys sub box!

Im looking for zebra Trollhair for the top inside of the box, so the hair flows with the bass

  • 3 weeks later...

OK so a new port has been installed, the plexi has been glued in better and I have more mounting screws holding the front panel on. Along with about 5' of Campers foam tape between the panel and the box.... And the boy does it boom!!

I have been running an MTX5601 wired to 1 ohm (for some reason it has never got warm) Gain is on less than half and I'm flexing the baffle between the sealed and ported chambers the subs are mounted into. haha. damn. So I will be bracing the center up.

But I'm still hearing what sounds like the sub box flexing.... at first i though it was the subs bottoming out... but i realized the sounds isn't coming out of the port, its coming from the back of the box somewhere...

No way a box made from 3/4 MDF is flexing from 2 10's at 350rms.... any ideas?

also picked up a new amp.

RF250.2

250 RMS per channel at 4 ohms,

Well these subs are single 2 ohms coils, so ill be putting about 375 RMS to them. or much cleaner power than the MTX.

Nolte told me that these are 400rms all day long so that should be perfect!

This sounds similar to my box. I started out with those aero ports and decided to get rid of them and go to a rectangular port. Sounds way better. My box is also flexing and tearing itself apart. 2 12's on about 1000 watts. It's 3/4 Mdf and the outside has quite a bit of resin and body filler. If I were you, just use mat and resin to strengthen up that baffle. Maybe even some dowel bracing. That's what I'm looking at doing. Good luck man and keep us updated on what you do.
