StreetMetalBen Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 My Buddy and i Just built our first 4th order, and it didnt turn out how we wanted... The box is for 2 Nolte Audio 10's, and it going into a 97 Honda Accord Sedan. The box was purely a Sound Quality Intention... And SQ it does have. The notes are crisp, and clean, and keep up with the Fastest of notes... they are just really quiet! It is honestly not half as loud as they were when they were in a pre-fab ported box, tuned to the 550's Ill post up a sketch-up when i get to my other computer, but the box is 1 cub + polyfill Sealed with 0 sub displacement. (subs mounted face down) and 2.1ish cubes ported tuned to 55hz. The box has a removable face so it makes getting to the sub easy. I took the face off and it got exponentially louder. Now i haven't calculated the "port" aka, the access hole to see what that would be tuned too... But here is my question The box is tuned to 55 using a 4" areo Port, not is it possible that the port, even tho its tuned properly, is still tuned too small to allow for optimum volume? Im still new to everything, and i hope this makes since without pix! Thanks in Advance!!!!!!!!
StreetMetalBen Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Here is the sketch-up file
StreetMetalBen Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Now when that front panel is removed, they get much louder than with it on. And when i use the panel as a slider door, with it half open, it is the loudest... So im assuming i need a larger port opening, so do i need a larger/longer port to allow more air to excape while keeping the tuning the same? Dont mind the crudness of the box, it is nowhere finished, the body will be carpeted to match the trunk, the face will be painted a purple with Black/white splater paint to match the subs.
StreetMetalBen Posted October 4, 2012 Author Report Posted October 4, 2012 Yup, going to be cutting out the areo port, and replacing it with a vertical rectangle port.... Any advise?? I'm still confused, so I'm just going with instinct.
revoracing247 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 sorry i can't be any more advice, as i've never built a 4th order. but just wanted to say that i like the whole plexi window to look at the baskets and magnets. pretty cool, and from what it looks like a bigger port would be better. personally i've never liked round ports but then again i've never bought a true aero port. i say if you have the materials and time then mess around with it! ~ If it was easy, everybody would be doing it ~
StreetMetalBen Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 After alot of research, i have found that everyone says 15 Sq In of port is ideal for each cubic foot of ported box. So i will be cutting in a port approximately 5x6x7 That will keep the tuning around 60 Hz
Raptorman Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 Most people tune their 4th orders to around the high 40's. Also, it's like 14-18 sq In of port per cube for slot ports, Aero ports are around 9-13. 1996 GMC Sonoma Four Fi BTL Neo 18's In 2:1 6th Order Bandpass 2 Ampere 5k's @ .5 TEAM FI TEAM #LITHIUMCANTDEMO On 10/20/2013 at 0:37 AM, KillaCam said: Fucking with a Prius driver is like making fun of a disabled kid. stroupe79 Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 your suffocating your subs...there is pretty much no way that the aeroport you are using is tuning the box to 55hz maybe give your dimensions of the 2 chamber and the size of the current port for people to try and trouble shoot for you, maybe then someone can recommend a new port that would perform better http://www.stevemead...cherokee-build/ 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Alpine CDE-hd148bt Alpine PKG-RSE2 PRV Audio (4) 6MB200 front/rear doors PRV Audio (4) TW350Ti dash/rear doors Kicker KX350.4 Obsidian Audio (1) 18 D4 v2 revamp (2) Stereo Integrity HT 18d2DC Audio 1.2k5.25ft^3 tuned @34hz revamp Infinite Baffle Cpillar AudioTechnix 60mil deadenerKnuKonceptz & SkyHigh wire (complete setup)
StreetMetalBen Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 Sorry, Im not using the areo anymore. Its being cut out of a 5x6 Square Port, in place of the areo. The port will the 2.25 long inside and 4" long external. Giving it 7" of port length
