Brandon15zzz Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Alright I bought 2 18" re sx subs with fi soft parts from a friend. They have direct leads, 5 spiders. There supposed to be built for spl. Atleast that's what fi wrote on the coil lol. But I need help with how much space i should put them in. My buddy told me as big as possible which would be around 12 cubes after displacements staying below window line. Then other people have told me no more then 5 cubes for each. This build is more for music then burping and doing numbers. Ill be running these on a crescendo bc2k at .7. Ill probably be running 2 10" ports with them. So basically I just need people's opinion on how many cubes I need for them on the 2k of power. Captain Stupid Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 The REs are recommended to be in 8 cubic feet per sub net for optimal use. Not sure how the FI soft parts affects the specs? I'm pretty sure that is for a max SPL application. I have two RE SX 18s in a box that nets 10.6 cubic feet, so 5.3 cubes per sub. It slams hard and plays all sorts of music, even metal, really well. It even hits the lows reasonably well. But IMHO, it could be a bit bigger. The subs never seem to extend fully even under full amplifier power above their rated load. I believe thats because the box is on the small side. If I made a new box, I would probably go about 6-6.5 cubes per sub, for a nice compromise between musical response and SPL. I took one sub out of the box and capped the hole, netting appox. 10.9 cubic feet for a single RE SX 18 and it is definitely waaaay too big of a box. At 1860 clamped watts and too big of a box, it would only be a matter of time before the sub would give out on me if I kept it in such a large box. I can smell it getting hot after just a few minutes of loud play. I would say don't go smaller than 6 cubes per sub or larger than 8 cubes per sub.
