2012 Veloster - 1 HDC415 on 1 AQ3500.1

Recommended Posts

Sick build my man. Thinking about a Veloster for my next car too.

Thanks man. I highly recommend the Veloster or even the Veloster turbo. I've had it one year and it's been a great car. Good gas mileage, plenty of room for subs(if you take the back seats out), and its a looker.

what are the dimensions of the box? i have one 15 but plan on getting 3 more and doing the same. i have a toyota rav 4 so not a lot of room for anything too crazy but i like what you have done!

This is basically what I used. The width isn't 38, its actually 40 in the front and 37 in the back. The top, and sides taper in to hug the roof and get the most amount of space.

seems a little small dont you think? it needs about 15 cubic feet of airspace. small car so i guess you work with what you can do! i love the subs but am unhappy with my box since it was the first i built and there was a lot i could have done better. im worried to do a wall because it looks hard to design and then build. ive kept this page up on my computer im really excited to see what you do to it. wish you were closer to oklahoma so i could hear this thing when its done!

Thanks for the kind words man. So for the box size.. If you go to Obsidian's website, it shows a recommended enclosure size for a ported box to be between 2.5 and 3.75 cubic feet. If my box is 12 net cubes, divide that by 4 and you've got 3 cubes per sub, which fits nicely in between the manufacturer recommendation. It actually sounds pretty damn good, and I can tell a huge difference in output already after sealing the sides, top, and bottom around the box. It will only get better after I glass it too.

Walls can be tricky but the key is to make them strong. It requires a lot of extra wood and space but it's totally worth it. I would suggest reading Steve's civic build for more tips on doing walls.

I'll be updating this thread as I go along and I expect to start the fiberglassing tomorrow, so be looking for those updates.

Hows the voltage doing full tilt? Have a blast with the fiberglass.

As far as I know its not bad, but my voltmeter freakin blows. I need to get a new one and double check that everything is ok. The plan is to add a second battery as well as a crescendo 3500 or something similar.

Added a trailer hitch to the car. I will be using it for my bike rack. Pay no attention to the filthy exhaust tip.

Got some glassing done this weekend. The stuff I'm using is pretty crappy so its taking a lot of layers and a long time to cure. The curves are getting stronger though so it shouldn't need more than another layer or 2.
Also ordered some rage gold today so that should help smooth things out.

damn i heard that rage gold stuff is really good. its gonna suck sanding in your car though

Yea I've never used it before but I've heard a ton of good things, mainly that it's really easy to sand it which is what I'm looking for. It really does suck that I have to sand inside my car. I'm just going to wrap everything in plastic and hope for the best. I hope to start on the filler/sanding later this week.

Shit sticks to EVERYTHING. It's such a pain in the ass when you are having to do it inside the car and are trying not to get it on anything. I hate to say it but I used your regular bondo brand walmart fiberglass resin and matt. It takes forever to fully cure, but it works just fine. The wall curves are starting to get very strong and solid and I think one more layer should do it.

i know dude. that shit is horiblle. i tried a little fiberglass project and i let the shit cure for like 2 days and it was still a little sticky. i just really wanted to do it and didnt wanna wait to buy it online. i was going to buy that rage gold but i gave up on that project.
