1988 Cavalier,widebody build,one piece flip ip front clip...a long drawn out build...

just as I got to this pic, it looked alot like the front end of a challenger...probably the space in the front....but shes comin along nice man....one of the most progressed projects Ive seen...

so...........after getting the section between the scoops laid up......and letting it cure for a day....

I peeled it off the car...yet again...

and trimmed it....on my cutlines....

slapped it back on the car..........(fits like a glove....as expected)

and i started blocking it with the longboard and some 36 grit..

one of many many blockings...over the next few days:(

now that the main portion of the "hood" is all cured....we are ready to move on....the "hood" is 4 layers of 1.5oz thick.....so its now a little over 1/8"thick...

next step was to do away with the silly scoops ..this was done by simply taping over them with some posterboard....and trace out my cutouts...on the stock hood...so i knows where to foil.....

stock hood is foiled......now i put the new skin back on

and then....begin the next run of taping....

for those wondering ....just what in the hell i am doing....

these 2 middle sections will be ...removable....Just for now

here you can see in the 233+ greentape.....the thickness of the already made hoodskin

for now im leaving the 2 middle sections removable......so i have access to the engine bay.....this will make live easy-er......when making the rear mounting points for the front clip

now...............by building the hood skin ,the way i have.....

mapping out nice cut lines building up the main hood,....letting it cure....then cutting them out with a grinder..making nice straight cuts.....

this leaves me with a nice clean edge....to run my utility knife on...and trim out the center sections ...in the green stage of curing....

not fully cured.....still tacky....but strong enough to cut without dragging hairs

and remove the tape.....while the layup is tacky....

so nw the hood is curing in 3 pieces...

after some intense blocking.....by hand with the long board....i outlined the low spots with a sharpie.....scuffed them up good with 36 grit....and began filling low spots.............no mudd yet.........filling with glass

and dont forget to make those cuts again..........while the glass is green...

hose it with some .99 flat black.................and call it a night..

then block it again:D

into it with 36 grit....add 2 more layers of 1.5 oz....and call it good....any filling after that can be done with duraglass
