Darth_Poot Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 Sorry if this has been addressed before, I don't really use forums and this stuff is new to me. I bought an 07 impala with plans of the biggest stereo system i've ever done 1/0 wire mechman alt xs battery in the rear. My amp should only draw 120 amps but my lights dim and my battery saver turns on. Don't know if it's because i'm using a battery isolator, if the isolator isn't in the correct spot, or if my primary battery is no good. I followed mechman's recomendation, wire from alt to positive main battery, wire from bolt on alt to negitive. Since i'm using the isolator i'm also running a wire to a fuse, to the trunk where the isolator is then to the second battery. I can't figure out what the problem is. Maybe get rid of the isolator? Any help will be great.
Tarball Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 First get rid of the isolator in the rear and replace it with a 2nd fuse on that power line. Second, don't play with the vehicle off (I know you didn't say you did but that is what the isolator was for right, so you don't drain the front batt. Run the wire to the rear from your front battery. Also, did you do a 1/0 frame ground? Darth_Poot Posted October 22, 2012 Author Report Posted October 22, 2012 1/0 every where i could, probsbly the isolator, but wouldn't the alt handle the entire load? I was also told that deap cycles were bad to use? Xs just soecial?

Tarball Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 That should be fine, where is your meter hooked up at ? Also, how did you set your gains? You may be clipping which could present a higher than normal load. Dimming lights may still happen even after some upgrades. Normally the wire that goes to your cars fuse relay center is relatively small. Electricity will follow the path of least resistance. If your amp wants juice and you have some beefy cables feeding it your higher resistance circuit can get a power sag.
