I making a box for two 15" Fi audio BLs for a Ford Explorer. I will be doing sub up (close to the rear window) and port back (towards the rear). The Fi website said 3-5ft^3 per sub, dose anybody know what works best? I have 12.5ft^3 to work with. I have also read that 16in^2 per cube works best for port area, dose that sound right for the BL? Just playing around, I used two websites to find a general port length, for both I used 8ft^3 and 130.5in^2 (43.5in wide x 3in high) for port area tuned to 33.6hz (Fs). However the length was different by a lot.

http://www.mobileinformationlabs.com/HowTo-1Woofer-Box-CAL%20Port%20lenth%201.htm

Length = 7.76in

http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcsm.asp#_index

Length = 29.5in

Which website should I use and what should the combined volume be?

43.5 by 3 is faaaaaar too skinny. try to stay within a 1:8 ratio. thats a 1:14.5 ratio.

use the torres box calc, located in the enclosure section. its been proven to be pretty accurate time and time again. those two calcs you listed, may not be right.

edit: just a tip, the Fs of the sub doesn't mean the box has to be tuned to that specific frequency. i dont know if you know this or not, so thats why im bringing it up.

Ok thanks, is 8cubes good for both? Or should I use more? Im looking for deep bass. And I'm running it with 2500w RMS

So 8.25ft^3 (total), 8ft^3 (after displacement of the sub is subtracted) tuned to 33.6Hz with 128in^2 of port area and a port of 4in x 32in (1:8)? how long should the port be?

Is there a golden ratio for port hight and width? 4" x 32" is a 1:8, but will a 1:1.42 (9.5" x13.5") work better or dose it not matter as long as its under 1:8?

I believe that all comes in testing. Some boxes will perform better with a lesser ratio and better with a larger ratio. In your situation keep it somewhere in the middle and you'll be fine.
