How to upgrade to a 14v battery

Found a deal on an xs power d1400. Would I need to drop the voltage a bit for the ecu, and upgrade to an h. o. alt? Current alt is 160 or 180 amp i believe.

and exactly how is he gonna charge it? even with it in a right setup he would have to charge at 16v to keep the batt worth a shit.. i have charged a car at 15.5v with no stepdown on the ecu, and it was scarry as shit cause when the alt spun up it would charge at 15.8 15.9v. that was pushing it. it would blow a headlight about every week.

IT doesnt exactly work like this. You need to be able to tell your alt to charge at a higher voltage. and like you said some ECUs can take 16v but they will burn up faster.

14v xs can take a charge as high as 16.8v.

Honestly, you are better off investing in 12v than 14v unless you just want the experience. You can get get same or more power if you go with a well designed 12v system for less money. If done correctly.

Noone said you didnt do it before, but its not as simple as "drop a 14v battery in where your 12v was and be done" .

At my level I feel finding a 12v would indeed be the better option. I'm willing to bet my 00' jeep grand cherokee's ecu could handle it but for now ill wait till i have more knowledge and experience. For my future build however, I will need a new alt then I won't have to worry. also what's a vcm?
