What year is your Cherokee?

I was researching more on ZJ alternators on XJs and apparently you need to grind the bracket that mounts to the motor slightly to fit the alternator but its supposed to be really easy to do.

Heres what one guy said about it that did the swap but no pictures...

you have to take the alternator bracket off of the motor and put the bracket onto the alternator to see exactly where you need to grind. i did this back and forth for about 30 minutes until it fit perfectly. i think i grinded off about 1/4 inch. There is one spot that got hung up the most. You will figure it out when you get the alt though (really easy)

So apparently it takes slight modding of the bracket but nothing major.

Here is a very good link showing pictures and walkthrough on the process. Apparently its a common cheap upgrade to put the 136a ZJ alts onto the XJs.
