rambo.93
btw...im gonna be using a Kole Audio QX1-3000d. im going to wire the subs to it at 4 ohms cuz it puts out 1100 watts rms at 4 ohms and they are 400 watts each. so ill just have to be a lil careful about pushing them too much. rambo.93
can anyone tell me if i set this up correctly at all? EDIT: i was just looking at it some more and i realized that my desired volume is way smaller than my actual volume...how do i decide the actual size of the box based on the desired volume? ear2ear
If you enter anything in the desired net field, it ignores the box dimensions. Delete the 2.8 out of that field and then adjust your box dimensions as desired. rambo.93
aight. because i want my box to be 2.8 because each sub is supposed to have 1.4 cubic feet or whatever. if the listed box space for a sub is 1.4 i want to make sure the net volume is that right? not the gross? ear2ear
Yes, net. But you have to delete it out of the "desired net volume" field. If you leave it in there, it overrides/ignores the "box dimensions" fields. rambo.93
ok, so delete it from there and just experiment with different measurements until it says that's the volume? ill try that out now.
rambo.93
how long do you want the port length to be in relation to the depth of the box? is the port length just the two pieces of wood that go into the box? and if so, how much minimum space do you want between the end of the port and the back of the box for the air to get through? EDIT: btw, i do realize that the port length is what determines the tuning. i just want to know if there is a minimum space between the back and the port walls. rambo.93
aight, so i actually sat down and did math and drew sketches of the box. i think that everything this time should be good. i think that im going to just throw on an extra layer of wood on the very front to increase the strength and make the volume a tiny bit closer to 2.8. everything look and sound ok? JamieHoward
That looks pretty good, but your port area per foot is a little low. General rule of thumb is somewhere near 12 and 16 inches per foot. This is where it gets a little tricky, because to increase port area, the port will need to be longer to keep the same tuning frequency - which in turn takes up more box volume, forcing you to make the box bigger. I would also suggest turning the subs towards the inside of the cabin and seal off the rest of the trunk. This makes the area you have to "fill" with bass smaller and makes your subs seem louder. I know it made a HUGE difference for me. Alot of the energy is used to just rattle the trunk when they fire into it. Just my 2 cents. EDIT - Also, adding an extra baffle WILL increase strength, but NOT volume. Keep in mind too that the port will come out another.75 because of the extra baffle, so plug in .75 to the "length of external port" field. Not much difference, but this is the proper way. ear2ear
Do you want your port centered between the woofers - or offset to one side? If you want it to one side, you need to change the "# of common port walls" to 3. 2 common port walls means it's a center slot port. And if you want an extra baffle, enter it into the "# of extra baffles" field. Just remember that the Box Dimensions are the total outside of the box including any extra baffles. So increase your depth accordingly.
