9erHomer Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Hello everyone!!! This is my first post on the SMD forum. I just purchased an aq sd. 2.5 15" sub D4 ohm and a aq 1200d that i'm going to be running at 2 ohms. My space limits are -35" wide -16" height -15" deep I used the 12volt site to help me figure out that aq seems to use 41hz to tune their boxes. I came up with the following box. 34" w, 16" h, 15" deep. this gives me an internal vol of 3.68ft^3 I estimated about .17 woofer displacement so an internal vol of 3.51 ft^3. I was thinking of a 6" aeroport so using the12volt site i calculated a 6" aero port at 8.5" long which puts me at 41hz. What do you guys think? any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys
Joe X Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Welcome, post the vehicle this box is going into.
9erHomer Posted November 27, 2012 Author Report Posted November 27, 2012 It is going into a corolla. I was thinking of facing the sub and port forward and have the seats folded down while playing
Joe X Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Port/sub front should be fine, 41Hz tuning not very good for rap and such, also these subs like big boxes. This is what I would do for that sub: Enclosure Specifications: Fb = 35 Hz Vb = 4 ft^3 External Height = 16 in External Width = 35 in External Depth = 20 in Port Width = 4 in Cut Sheet List: * All Dimensions in Inches. * Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts. External Enclosure Parts: Front = 30 1/4 x 14 1/2 Back = 35 x 14 1/2 Left & Right Sides: Side 1 = 18 1/2 x 14 1/2 Side 2 = 19 1/4 x 14 1/2 Top & Bottom = 35 x 20 L Port Internal Assembly Parts: Front to Back = 14 1/2 x 14 1/2 Extension = 3 x 14 1/2 As an alternative to online calculators I would recommend playing with Torres calculator downloadable from this site.
9erHomer Posted November 27, 2012 Author Report Posted November 27, 2012 Thanks Joe X, so I did the math wrong? I tried to figure out what the aq site recommends on their tuning and I kept getting 41hz? Well I listen to rap for the most part. I wanted to keep the depth to 15 so I could have room in my trunk. I'll download Torres tonight and ill give it a shot with a width of 35" and 15" depth. I'll c if I could figure it out? I'll let u know how it goes tomo. Thanks again!!! Man, I got a lot to learn
Joe X Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Your math seems ok now that I checked it, I recommend Torres since it's easier and faster to work with, if you want to try a tighter high tuned spec there is nothing wrong with that, but if after building it you find that deeper bass plays light then a spec like the above will perform better on the lows.
jeep0312 Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 No offense to anyone but in my experience 4 cubes is too big for a 2.5 15''. My sub likes to bottom out easily in 4.0 cubes. I recommend 3.0 cubes tuned to high 30's 2004 Malibu Classic http://www.stevemead...aq-25-jeep0312/ Kenwood 352U HU (2) Incriminator Audio Death Row 12'' Soundstream Tarantula 1300W MTX 6.5'' mids & Infinity 4x6's in front doors Building as money comes in... beauty panels and amp rack 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Traded for a 2004 Malibu 2wd-4wd conversion 4in. lift 32'' Tires 2 Alpine 6.5 in front 2 Sony 6.5 craploads in rear Build: http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 1999 Suzuki Sv650(Work in Progress)
9erHomer Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 So do u think that 3.5ft^3 is too big, Or should I stick to 3.0ft^3? What bout 38hz is that good. I def want to be able to hit the lows? One more Q, why does aq tune their boxes high?
9erHomer Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 Hey Jeep0312, do u think that ur bottoming out ur sub due to too much power? I'm going to be using approx. 870@ 2 ohms.
9erHomer Posted November 28, 2012 Author Report Posted November 28, 2012 Hey Joe, i tried to go onto Torres and I couldn't figure out if I was using the syst properly. How did u give me a detailed cut list? This is my specs for my new 3.0ft^3 box for my aq 2.5-15. Is it possible to give me a detailed cut list Again? Thanks for helping me out!!! 16-h 35-w 15-d Port 14.5h x 2.75w x 17L @ 37.78 hz Port area per foot= 12.50in^2 Net volume 3.19 ft3
