dude you're working with some pretty wild angles in there, a lot of respect for that :hi:

as for your lazy ass dogs, you need to put them to work lol

it's amazing how some as simple as an amp rack requires so much work... a lot of people don't appreciate that today... a lot of people expect to be able to just go out and buy something like that lol

Posted

Thanks, yeah the angles take some serious brain work. But it's coming along.

Uploading pics now. Was going to do some work tonight, but the heat is pretty bad, and I feel like crap. So those two things combined, does not make for good working conditions. But I'll get some pics posted here in a bit when they're done uploading!

Ok let's get some stuff posted up here.

So first thing I did was get my stuff out to do work. In the middle of that I found a couple of logos I wanted to get put up. So I did that. First the shop!

Jon, can we call this the official Elk Grove SHCA remote warehouse?!! Never mind I don't have any stock on me! LOL! Representing though!

485832_521984491194366_1735787717_n.jpg

Not a big fan of a bunch of logos or stickers on my car, so I put them on, but I have them in an inconspicuous place. I'm actually thinking of changing this up, and adding a nice little touch to it. But that's probably down the line. We'll see.

So I added my Singer Alternators logo:

223044_521984501194365_2047951580_n.jpg

Removed the Injen logo cause it was kind of scratched up, even though you can't really see it there.

426654_521984507861031_1819100473_n.jpg

And threw in some SHCA love!

7858_521984604527688_238089969_n.jpg

I would love to have a SHCA logo with the letters cut out, like the rest of them that are there, HINT HINT JON!! LOL

I'm going to order another Injen logo and figure out where to put that.

Let's move on! There's lots more to go!

So I have the enclosure going on, I have the amp rack going on. But for some reason I can't seem to stay on track. I was going to try and do the big three, change the alt out, and change the batteries out. But for some reason, I can't seem to make things simple. Oh well, live and learn. But it's fun to try! WOOT!

Before I could do anything, I had to get some supplies! So a trip to Depot was in order, and I got some new toys.

Irwin Bench Vise.

But before I could start building I had to build a workbench for this stuff to go on. This is a good spot in front of the shop, under the window.

Time to put the new toys on.

389218_521984971194318_2042635771_n.jpg

This looks like a good spot for the vise.

Time for a quick rant! Why in the hell is it, that someone thought it was a good idea to lube these things up so much that it would fit in Adam's ass with no problems. Seriously there is so much oil on here, I could ring out the rag I used, and change the oil in my car. This is ridiculous! End rant!

I know I'm supposed to lag it in, but I forgot when I was at the store, and I didn't have any here. So these 3 1/2" screws will work for now.

601081_521985014527647_1348520307_n.jpg

Bench grinder in the middle. I may move this so I can have the table to work on, and don't have to work around the grinder. Probably move it to the end of the workbench on the left there.

So I don't have any electrical in the shop yet. It's on the list, but just haven't gotten there yet. So this is my make shift lighting. Just a couple of shop lights and an extension cord.

Ok, it's time to get busy! I started out by taking pics of the current battery, Stinger SPP1200. In that I also took voltage pics. Not bad. Good battery, never given me any problems. But, it's time for a change. Here we go.

Stinger SPP1200 resting voltage.

970702_521994237860058_1347248694_n.jpg

Stinger SPP1200 running voltage. Not sure if that's the proper term . I just turned the car on. That's what it was when I turned it on. Like I said, not bad.

960155_521994241193391_1837680224_n.jpg

Now I was just going to throw the new XS Power Batt in, but I ended up getting fancy. Figured if I'm going to do the work, do the work right!

Had an idea for this a while ago. But I never did anything about it. But this was the stock I bought for it. 1 inch x 3 inch by 12 inch and a 6 inch piece too. We're going to use the 6 inch piece for this one.

6757_521987544527394_1547151728_n.jpg

Also got some 1 inch by half inch stock from Kyle, thanks buddy! That will be used later on in the build. I can't wait to use it. Looks good!

943054_521987557860726_82934624_n.jpg

Ok the battery I'm going to be using in front is an XS Power D4700. It has cut outs for the terminals. This can present a problem when it comes to multiple runs of cable and not a big space to put them in.

223121_521987551194060_1822051418_n.jpg

So to start, I'm going to use the 6" piece of aluminum. Got it taped up and ready to draw on. This makes layouts easier.

485427_521987624527386_1756374933_n.jpg

This is the basic layout. Now I have to get it from one big piece, to two 3" pieces.

931168_521987647860717_19949463_n.jpg

Going to use the vise for the first time! WOOT!

383384_521987677860714_387389820_n.jpg

This is what I decided to go with. May not exactly be the right way to do it, but I thought I'd give it a try since I have no band saw and I'm not feeling warm and fuzzy about using the table or chop saw. So here we go.

960023_521987697860712_1402594037_n.jpg

ALWAYS remember safety glasses of some sort. Especially in a situation working with metal. If you've never had a piece of metal shaving in your eye, I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!! It hurts!!!! Let's do this!

little jagged

945669_521987817860700_255098769_n.jpg

pretty close to straight.

944117_521987834527365_1880493803_n.jpg

Let's just see how straight? Hard to see here but we're within a 1/16th of an inch. Pretty damn good!

389766_521987857860696_1387261448_n.jpg

Let's put this baby to use!

960020_521987877860694_1157248839_n.jpg

Needed to put a nice round on the corner. You'll see why in a moment.

576821_521987897860692_154559135_n.jpg

Not too bad!

7912_521987911194024_1853753783_n.jpg

Before look. Forgot to take a before pic. This is an opposite corner.

576649_521987927860689_556390521_n.jpg

Before it was cut. See on the battery it has a little round to that back corner. It doesn't allow the block to sit in there very well just cut straight like that.

9057_521987937860688_1314441028_n.jpg

After the round over. See how much tighter it sits in there.

970360_521987957860686_804727078_n.jpg

Both corners in the upper center are done. One + and one -. Time to lay it out.

942255_521987971194018_2053025863_n.jpg

I'll spare you the boring details. Measured, laid it out, did it with pencil, and then marked with a sharpie just in case.

7167_521987987860683_1490136454_n.jpg

Ready to drill

10547_521988004527348_697998777_n.jpg

Finally get to use this beauty. This is pretty much exactly why I bought this thing! Time to put it to use. Need to test it out before I dig into the blocks. I used the 1" x 1/2" stock to do a test.

249010_521988024527346_1497767065_n.jpg

THIS THING DRILLED LIKE BUTTER! OH MAN! Sooooooooooo happy!!

419007_521988057860676_1135857522_n.jpg

Ok so now the hole is drilled, I have to get them tapped. Let's see!

8687_521988051194010_1991662330_n.jpg

Almost there. The stainless steel screw at the bottom that needs to go in.

226776_521988067860675_1180129295_n.jpg

And we're good! No problems at all. It actually wasn't that easy. I went through a couple drill bits before I got the right one. But it's all good now!

383372_521988091194006_1288025039_n.jpg

Posted

Then I drilled out the blocks.

947017_521988127860669_930675184_n.jpg

This is the best way I could hold the block in place. Problem is these clamps suck ass! So I'll be getting new ones for this tomorrow.

389251_521988154527333_48175700_n.jpg

But they did do the job at the end of the day! Making aluminum coils! WOOT!

383384_521988161193999_1375341681_n.jpg

Now they're all drilled out.

580204_521988207860661_494276965_n.jpg

It's time to tap them all out for the screws.

946734_521988221193993_1584346495_n.jpg

And done! Well, done with the first block. Got them all tapped and cleaned out, and the screws and terminals on to get a look at what they're going to look like.

941732_521988234527325_752282450_n.jpg

This is what it looks like temporarily on the terminal. I need to drill out the center for the screw and washers to sit down and give it a flush mount look.

969940_521988251193990_2054306943_n.jpg

Overall look. Second block needs to be done still.

863_521988264527322_1236085071_n.jpg

Metal shavings anyone! WOW!

226719_521988287860653_731423676_n.jpg

So that's as far as I got with it. Thought I'd get it done tonight, but I'm not feeling well. I have some work to do on the room tomorrow and then we'll see what tomorrow night brings. I have big plans for under the hood, wire management, but I'll hold off revealing that until later.

Thanks for checking in!
