wiring a carputer to turn on with viper 5901

Recommended Posts

I have a wild idea that idk would work but i want to try anyways. I have a viper 5901 in my 04 envoy and was thinking that it would be nice and a hell of a lot easier to have the ability to turn the carputer on and off via the accessory output on the alarm. I currently have no accessory outputs in use so all of the wires are open but i was wondering how i would go about wiring the carputers accessory turn on wire to the viper 5901. What i was thinking would be to maybe use the 15-20 amp relay i have since its just being used to switch on my carputer and not any of the amps and then probably putting a diode in line with the output on the brain so that when i actually get in and turn the key on there would not be any voltage kick back to the brain and fry it. Would this work? And what output wire should i use on the 5901 for this?

edit: i want to set it up so that i can hit the aux button on my remote, initialize the command and turn on JUST the carputer so that i can synchronize the songs from my media server to the carputers internal hard drives and then when the sync finishes press the aux button to terminate the computer and shut it down.

You can get it to work if you wire a relay to turn on when you press the aux button but that would only be for a few seconds. You could find some kind of timer that turns on when the you press the aux.

But I think the easiest to do is have the carput turn on with the ignition is on so when you remote start the truck it also turns on the carputer

yeah the ignition switch would be easy to make it turn on but i was thinking to maybe save on fuel since its stupid to turn on the truck for 3 minutes or so while the new songs are synchronizing between my media server and my carputer then to shut it down. doing it that way is easy as just swapping the ignition wire that goes from a wire i tapped into from the fusebox from going to the headunit to the carputers turn on itself.

My carputer, as a 12v to 12v power supply. If i turn the key on it comes on. Now if you do like you said and you are using a powersupply like what i have, it as a set of jumpers that tell it how long to stay on after the key is off.

You could set it to run for 10 minutes or 4 hours or w/e. So then your mod would work.

So, what are you using for a power supply?

its whatever one cam with the carputer when i bought it from johnathan price (keep the negative comments out of here people, i dont want to hear it) if you need me to i can pull it out of the box tomorrow and look. i believe its only like a 50-60w power supply that is internal to the carputer itself. when i turned off the accessory power it remained on for like a minute or two but thats not quite long enough and i dont remember if there were jumper wires to change the standby time for it.

The jumpers would most likely look like this

the blue thing

That is my best guess anyway, since i don't know what your power supply is. But if it is one made for carputers, it will probably have those but the color may be different. If you can get a model number off the p.s. maybe you can find a manual for it.

okay so i found the manual on their website and see that i can adjust the shut down and power on timers with jumpers. you are a life saver my man. The manual i found from them is here: http://www.opussolutions.com/support/DCX3-120-revE%20Quick%20Guide.pdf i would have never thought it was possible. i honestly thought that spot was simply for an external power connection, not for modifying the startup and shut down voltage/timer.
