Hard Drive Test?

Hi, I need to know if my hard drive has gone bad, it won't install/load my OS. I'm probally going to need a new Hard Drive, but before I do I need to make sure it's the hard drive it's self. Does anyone know a program that you can download/burn to a cd and test your hard drive with it? Links or search tips would be good.

do you hear any clicking or anything weird? What kind of hard drive is it? you can download various hard drive tests from each manufacturer(like seatools for seagate) you could try a program called dft http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
