ehall8702 Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 heres some background on me, i have been installing audio systems for almost 15 years now. Never been to any school, just learned by trial and error. Everyone i know comes to me for installs, custom enclosures, designing something new, etc. I have a few questions though as i would like to further my skills. 1: proper way to set gain? i have always turned the head unit about all the way up and ran gain up untill distortion and then dialed back a bit. usually 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up. I dont have an oscilloscope ( which i read somewhere was one way to set gain) or any special tools, just a multi meter. 2:what is the best enclosure design for the most SPL output? I am interested in bandpass enclosures but have had limited luck with designing any myself. I just know bang for your buck, they make a TON of output. Any place that i can go to design my own bandpass enclosures? What are the downfalls of these enclosures? I know they only play from xxhz to xxxhz depending on the design, which means subsonic filter and STRONG midbass to fill in the missing frequencies. 3: I just had a brainfart and cant remember what else i wanted to ask. 2009 Silverado 1500, 7.5" lift, 37x12.50r17s, Built Gen 4 5.3L ( 4.8l flat pistons, decked 243s, SS2 Cam, Pac 1218 springs, ported intake, 120mm TB, Long tubes, 3" duals HP tuner software tuned by me), 4l80e swapped and 4.56 gears. Noel989 Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 1. Dd-1 it's easy to use 2. Traiil and error 3. Brainfart Build Log - http://www.stevemead...-cruiser-el-pt/
DR.TINGTING!!! Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 1. DD-1. It's cheaper than an o-scope more than a dmm but it's great if you're an installer.
Kwik_Cutty88 Posted January 16, 2013 Report Posted January 16, 2013 I would say DD-1. I know this will probably start a huge debate, but I set mine on a cruddy amp with a DMM. It sounds a lot better than by ear. Maybe I will shell out the cash for a DD-1 someday 1988 Olds Cutlass Supreme Classic Brougham.
