Mobileaudio25 Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 Do you guys use any enclosures with your component speakers? Or just free air it?
Kevin M Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 Most of them don't need a real enclosure. Sealing your doors usually works well enough. Just add as much weight to the baffle as possible to prevent rattles/resonance. If you use home audio speakers they may require some monkey coffins but I can't see any that many people would use requiring more than a cu. Carbon Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 They free air in alot of cars such as mine.
Mobileaudio25 Posted January 25, 2013 Author Report Posted January 25, 2013 I did the interior myself and my doors didn't come with speakers in them... So I have a set of Boston acoustic sc65 component speakers that I built a super small enclosure for. Prolly .25 cuft....
Mobileaudio25 Posted January 25, 2013 Author Report Posted January 25, 2013 So just putting them into the rear deck would be fine? Ditch the small boxes?
Kevin M Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 So just putting them into the rear deck would be fine? Ditch the small boxes? You could but if the subs are back there to it will roach your speakers. In that case the small enclosures will protect them. 2005 Ford Focus zx4 AMT's and Planars 18" Infinite baffle
ColumbusJBR Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 So just putting them into the rear deck would be fine? Ditch the small boxes? Yes. I've heard a lot of complaints about small enclosures killing bass response. Not that you should expect massive bass from mids n highs, but just sayin... Free air is fine.

kl0wn Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 Either are fine. I had to use enclosures because free airing them in my door kept frying them due to the seal on my doors is messed up and water kept leaking in. And since that now I only run 1 set of components and 2 super tweeters, built 2 enclosures for them and put them behind my seat, but up at your head, in between the box and the panel. Worked out pretty well. 06 Mini Cooper S Sundown, SoundQubed Cadence, XS Power 151s Sealed 155s Outlaw Windshield @ 37hz
