slapaddict209 Posted January 28, 2013 Author Report Posted January 28, 2013 So here's another question I have a dodge ram dual cab so if I were to send one back to DD so they can recone and re basket what would sound better the 10s or 12s they would be In a ported box sitting in the back seat runned by a saz3000

IF you have room to build the correct box for two 12's then it will be better than the two 10's...but if there isn't enough room then the 10's would be better. Don't send them back to DD..do it yourself.. it will save you money and its not too hard especially with a new basket. Chris Hammer Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 dont run them together even if they do have the same impedance, they are the same model but not the same size so they both have different t/s parameter. Can you explain why thats a problem in seperate boxes with same VC config/impedance? One Way Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 im talking about running them on the same amp, not seperate boxes/chambers/amp. T-line build- http://www.stevemead...e-t-line-build/
Chris Hammer Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 im talking about running them on the same amp, not seperate boxes/chambers/amp. Even then...seperate airspace same amp..same impedance on both subs..slightly different ts parameters because of cone size...what harm will it cause the amp? Im askign to elaborate because I don't see the problem in it really and if I am wrong I want a specific reason why so I know why..something other then "you shouldn't".\ And going further than just VC impedance if the boxes had different rise so one sub would rise to 1.5ohm when the other rose to 3.5 or something..I still don't see how that would harm the amp.. but my train of thought is probably fucked up I just want to understand why. Your best bet is to call DD or email them and tell them what your looking for. Some manufacturers sell recone kits but wont sell baskets...some do...you just have to call. If they wont sell you a recone and you have to go somewhere else like PSI for a recone...then you will have to do both because the recone will have different T/S parameters than the stock DD cone. slapaddict209 Posted January 28, 2013 Author Report Posted January 28, 2013 How do you remove the basket from the motor???
One Way Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 In all honesty I don't know what each individual t/s parameter does for speakers, I just learned from more knowledgeable people that if its not exactly the same in every aspect then it shouldn't be ran together. So please excuse my ignorance, I just figured hey if someone that's knows a lot about the parameters says its not good to do it then I'm not doing it. mrd6 Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 Just to clear up a bit of misinformation here: running any set/number of any speakers regardless of vc impedance, motor structure, or ts parameters will never harm an amplifier if it is not wired below its rated ohm load. All an amplifier does is provide a voltage at its terminals with the capacity to back it up with enough current to allow it to run safely at a given load. You could wire two subs, a tweeter, and four midranges together to a single channel as long as the final impedance is not too low for the amp. It will sound like poo and probably blow the drivers, but the amp itself will be fine (assuming there is not a short in a speaker when it blows). That being said, do what is being recommended here OP. Recone one of your subs or just run one of them. Running different size subs can be done successfully when you really know what you are doing and your goal is SQ but this is not one of those cases.
