multiple amps

So if i hooked 2 amps that are 2 ohm linked stable to 2 d1 subs... Would i just have to wire it as if it was a single sub on a single amp for each of them and then get them set up with a dd-1 or something? And how do you actually link 2 amps together?

Thanks I was pretty excited about the alt myself. kind of like a school girl, in a dress, on a swing. lol

I'm asking cuz I'm still mulling over whether i wanna do a pair of hdc3s or just go for it and do the hdc4 and call it a day lol

And also even if i do go for the hdc3s i gotta decide if i wanna just keep my 2200 and get a second one or if i sell the 2200 and get a 3500

Here we go....

There are tons of threads on this and tons or wiring diagrams online

Btw that was the first person. Ever banned by me while dropping a deuce. Feel privileged

Sorry I'm on my phone... And ik there's wiring diagrams online but none of them that i have found do 2 amps to 2 subs and i know nothing about linking amps together so i was just trying to verify my guess

ok so I did finally find on another site something about how to link 2 amps together since I did a few searches on here and wasn't able to find anything... and I see that doing that turns them into a single amp... but now that still doesn't help for how to do a pair of D1 subs to not catch a pair of amps that are 2 ohm stable linked on fire... there is no such thing as wiring 2 D1 subs to 2ohm that I know of there's 1 ohm and 4 ohm right? so how do you hook up a pair of D1 subs to a pair of 2ohm stable linked amps?

if you have 2 d1 subs, each sub can be wired to 2 ohms then wired in parallel to 1 ohm. If you strap then each amp sees .5 ohms......not a good idea on 2ohm stable amps. your best bet is to run the amps and subs separately (one amp to one sub wired to 2ohms) and gain match them. Also, youll have to split the rcas that go back to the amps, so one rca will be split to feed two amps

ok so turns out half the battle of finding any information on this forum is actually knowing wtf to look for and calling things the right thing... after finding out it's called STRAPPING not linking or chaining I did find the answer to my last question... if you wire a pair of D1 subs to 4 ohm and then connect them to a pair of strapped amps then you get a 2 ohm load.

http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/161402-question-about-strapping-and-ohms/?hl=%2Bstrapping+%2Bamps#entry2331140

and for anyone else that happens to find this here is how to actually do the strapping.

If you strap the amps you will have complete control of all the drivers
from one amp (master). I would strap them so you do not have to try and
match the levels by ear.

Since you do not have the manual I'll walk you through the process..

Set one amplifier to Master and one to Slave.

Connect the RCA cables from the Head unit to the Master amplifier.

Use a single RCA cable to jump the two amps (Master/Slave) together (mono connector).

Connect the negative slave speaker output to the negative master speaker output. (14 gauge wire or bigger must be used)

Use the Positive speaker output on the master as the Positive speaker connection.

Use the Positive speaker output from the slave amp as the Negative speaker

connection.

Connect Power, Ground and Remote turn on to both amps.

Turn the settings on the salve amp to 0 and adjust the output from the master amp only.

Now you can enjoy! wink.gif
