Misc. Sealed off trunk - '01Stratus *Gutted*

ooh i see. I assumed the triangular pieces had to be attached to the box somehow but i wasn't sure because it looked like in the early parts of the build that you would take it all out in several pieces instead of it all together. Looks like I'm going to have to take a grinder to the edge that you bolted those triangular pieces on because its not flat like yours. Mines probably going to be a tad more challenging to install but I definitely want to use your idea for the sealed aspect of the box.

How do you plan on removing the box now that its all together one piece if you do need to take it out?

Step 1. Remove all equipment, then unscrew the front from the car.

Step 2. Massive sledge hammer and/or sawzaw lol. She ain't coming out in one piece

I am currently in the process of build a setup quite like yours :) Instead of running the SQ2200, I'm currently looking at the CT Sounds AT1400.1. It runs 1800RMS @ 1ohm 14.4V. I figured a box with your dimensions would work nicely, as you say it was built with excessive power in mind (Far over the SDC2.5 12's RMS) However, I'm afraid that the interior difference will drastically change its performance? I own a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer, so the acoustics are FAR from that of your Dodge. Do you have any insight, or recommendations for my box design?

I am no box expert whatsoever. That's why I had my box designed. But you are correct acoustics are different. I chose to fire forward and in hatchbacks/SUVs you want to fire rear most of the time. If I were you, I would fire the subs up and port to the rear. Not sure if the same kind of port would work in that application or not. If you are truely worried about it all, hit up RAM designs or any other box designer and see what they could come up with.

Thanks for your reply! I'm still torn on buying the Q1200 or the Q2200... If I buy the 1200, I can run box specs I acquired directly from the guys at SoundQubed. As for the 2200, I would probably end up modifying your box specs to fire up with rear ports as you suggested. How well does your system hit highs? I listen to a lot of metal and don't want my subs cutting out @ 80hz if at all possible. I will be building one hell of a front stage as well, so it wouldn't be the worst but I don't want a "One note wonder" substage, if you catch my drift. ~peenemunde

No problem. I think with the 2200 you would want to shrink the box just a bit. They already have a stiff enough suspension. Mine can play up pretty high without the port plug in. With the port plug I loose a lot of output above 42hz. Kills 29hz though.

Without my port plug my frequency range is 28hz-kills 32hz-peaks at 48hz and goes up to... not sure never really played any high stuff. at least 57hz

I think you will be able to hear 80hz but it won't be terribly loud. I would be careful playing full tilt with subs with anything above 80hz. They won't be able to cool as well because they will hardly be moving.

Anyways, hop onto the soundqubed black friday deals tomorrow! and good luck with your build. PM me you build log link whenever you get started, I'd enjoy to go through it!

Anyways, I'll get around to swapping these in once it gets above 45 degrees. Screw this 5 degree crap.

I plan on adding more bracing to the box as well. This should be the last upgrade for a long while.

Just realized I forgot some updates, I think the dates are in the picture, maybe not. I got some rubber corks and remounted my amps. Those foam rods weren't doing squat for vibration dampening. Of course most are like big whoop. It would have been a 10 minute project if I had a bunch of free room. Well it took close to 3 hours. Swap those in and add a inline fuse to the Volt meter +. It really sucks trying to screw down the driver side front of the 2200. All the other screws are bad, but that one takes an easy 15 minutes of cursing and hating a trunk build. 1 hand, can't see, not sure if the screw is in the hole, and .5" of turning radius. ANYWAYS. Pictures.

And here is the port plug currently. I'll give it a bit more work when I swap subs.

I also noticed an issue when I was working on my headlights. (Damn HIDs are a PITA for me right now ever since I got new headlight housings) Anyways when I took of the driver head light, I could see the front battery. Looked down at to see how it was. Noticed the damn washers I put on had rusted. And badly at that. So I made it a mission to get those changed out when I had the free time. Which was today lol. It's another one of those things where if the battery was in the engine bay it would be a 10 minute job. Well it took me about 3 hours, (including to go to the parts store, and then couldn't get my sisters car back up the drive from the snow. fuuuuu)

So I swapped them out with some stainless steel ones. sanded the battery terminals to clear off the rust, along with the ring terminals. applied dielectric grease. The fun one was he positive. 4 ring terminals, and 4 washers. trying to get them all aligned and get the bolt threaded was fun once I had dielectric grease all over my hands LOL.

New washers on the positive (rightside) and rusted out on the neg.

All swapped, cleaned, and greased.

I should be able to get to swapping those subs out within the next couple of weeks, considering I don't get rammed with a bunch of work in my engineering class.

I'll have some sexy updates this tuesday though ;)

Edit: So I had to reset all my DTA settings back into my HU after I unplugged both batteries to swap the washers. In the process of resetting it all, I found out that my HU has a memory recall for all personalized settings. For the fucking WIN!!! At least I know that'll be the last time resetting all my settings. I swear I find out a new feature about it every time I have to redo the info on it from unplugging batteries.

Helluva HU for only $114

corks: http://www.widgetco.com/ My dad actually got some for making wine. the white ones are softer/squishier than my black ones.

and the port plug is the length of the port. It just got sucked back to the back of the box. doesn't move back and forth surprisingly. the port plug isn't the exact width of the port, it's a little less. I wrapped left over carpet like a U around it the friction would keep it in place. it is a bit fun to get it in without the carpet moving, getting it out isn't an issue. I will be adding 2" to the back of it so it will sit flush with the front of box.
