I could get a system sounding killer for $2k, I wouldn't call it an SQ system though, it would just be a great sounding one with upper-end consumer gear. A clean signal, good DAC, and a clean amp on some properly installed speakers sounds really nice no matter your definition of sound quality may be. If that is what you are going for I recommend JBL speakers and some old school A/B power if you know what to look for.

I'm gonna hate

What about all hybrid audio imagine stuff? The 6.5 inch woofer sounds amazing in a well built box. And so your thinking like and old precision power mos art amp?

That's more do-able on a budget. For $2,000 I would skip sound processing outright, if you are doing the install worry mainly about proper deadening and cable routing through your vehicle. Run a component set active for your front stage if it can be helped; again I like JBL and I think Rockford speakers have a killer sound too. Picking components is mostly up to you and your vehicle, we can give suggestions but it depends on what you want out of your system. With a lower wattage build you may extract more "SQ" for your cash so try to strike a balance between loud and clean. Distortion and rattles are the enemy of SQ in most installs, staging and time alignment are other battles but they are a bit easier to tackle. Make sure you test different tweeter placement and purchase a head unit with some hot pre-outs and built-in time alignment because that will save you a lot of money on signal gear.

As for amplification you just want simplicity, a short signal path and good power supply are the main goal. I say old school because that was about the only way amps were built until plastic was big in consumer goods so pick some old amps you can get deals on or like the looks of. Keep in mind older amps can have weird wiring/harnesses/connectors and input voltage requirements, I like the shiny silver Memphis PR amps because they are very clean and still right at home in a more modern system with little tweaking. Old school Soundstream is good if you can find it for the right price and PPI is even better with the same criteria when looking, I refuse to pay a lot for old stuff that could break.

Running speakers actively means junking the crossover they come with and running each piece independently, you will need external crossovers before the amp or an amp with a built-in crossover good enough to high-pass filter your tweeters. Basically each driver gets its own channel on an amp so you aren't using hardware to separate the tweeter and midrange signal.
