Joe X Posted March 7, 2013 Report Posted March 7, 2013 To compare performance between sealed and 4th BP for your sub here is a comparative plot: Orange is a 1.1 cubic feet sealed enclosure. Red is a 1 cube sealed 1:0.7 @50Hz 26 square inches of port 4th order bandpass. Both boxes will require use of subsonic filter due to the size of their sealed chambers. As you can see response is comparable but efficiency is higher on the 4th BP, in any case to build it you would need to have the exact driver displacement for the sub. As always plots do not represent actual real world performance and are only a starting point.
JG474 Posted March 8, 2013 Author Report Posted March 8, 2013 I bought 4AWG from Amazon after finding a well-reviewed product that comes with true 4AWG wire. Also, while driving today, I noticed a weird port noise about half way through a song. I turned off my subwoofer's amplifier from a switch so I could check it out when I got home. When I checked it out, the dust cap was half way unglued and sticking out a little, and there was a ~5" diameter black plastic circle that was ~1/4" thick below my subwoofer. It has small grooves in it like a vinyl record. I'll be taking it back to Parts-Express today, but what the hell..
