knockin'hoe97 Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Ok like the topic says how to multiple smaller subs stack up against a few big subs. For instance why do more people do the classic 2 18 route instead of lets say 8 12s.....wouldn't those 2 boxes both come out to around 12 cubes but the 12s would have almost double the cone area. so if you were running the same power, same electrical and all that good stuff wouldn't the 12s be louder in theory? If thats the case why wouldn't more people do it?....Is it just ease of install or what?
Bump4life Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 2 18s is roughly 10 cubes net where as 8 12s would be 16 cubes. box size is based on cone area. 2 12s and 1 18 have roughly the same box size. but it comes down to power. what is most efficent use of power. Eric Foreman Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 imo they run the bigger cones beacause of the lower frq they produce ,also you get more cone area with less speakers. if you want to build a daily with good sq then i would do more of the smaller woofers as you get a better frq range

Bump4life Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 same power. whatever has more cone area and the subs that are getting rated or more will win. if you underpower a ton of subs then less might be more also gotta make sure you have the airspace you need.
