Tercel-R Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Trying to build a proper tuned box for my 8w7 being powered with 500watts rms. Only problem is my car has fairly limited trunk space so I would like to build a slot ported box with an angled back. This picture shows pretty much exactly what I want to build. Criteria: -1 cu ft with 12 sq in of port -tuned to 34hz -width 26in max -height 12.5in max -material will be 3/4" birch I've been finding it a bit difficult to figure out the port dimensions..hoping to get some help!
larrys95civic Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 what depths are you working with, top and bottom, if you did 6 at the top and 10 at the bottom that would give you 1.01 cubic feet before displacement and port area (with the height and width you gave us) Team Superior SPL Former Installer at Driven Sound & Security http://www.drivenss.com All kinds of forsale threads http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164247-amps-subs-and-misc/#entry2383262 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164430-polk-audio-sda6000-sound-bar/#entry2386634 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164279-3-michael-kors-watches/#entry2383983 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164549-more-items-from-storage/ http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/166967-dd-9518s-amps-kenwood-custom-explorer-dash/ If someone is feeling generous I'd love an original sig LOL
larrys95civic Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Oh and if you could just offer up a please and thank you instead of a bunch of !!!! that would be great. thanks Team Superior SPL Former Installer at Driven Sound & Security http://www.drivenss.com All kinds of forsale threads http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164247-amps-subs-and-misc/#entry2383262 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164430-polk-audio-sda6000-sound-bar/#entry2386634 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164279-3-michael-kors-watches/#entry2383983 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164549-more-items-from-storage/ http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/166967-dd-9518s-amps-kenwood-custom-explorer-dash/ If someone is feeling generous I'd love an original sig LOL
Tercel-R Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 I would like keep the depth as shallow as possible and use a 15 deg angle for the back which would be a 3.5" difference from the top depth from the bottom depth. I'm afraid that the 26" width won't be long enough to get the 34hz...
larrys95civic Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 So any depth will work then? Sonic Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Why dont you use a 3" diameter aero port? You would save alot of space.
Tercel-R Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 Thanks for the tip, I didn't realize how much space I can save with an aeroport
Tercel-R Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 I worked on the dimensions a bit more and this is what I came up with using a 3" aeroport at 15.83" long. Box size is 26" wide, 12.5" tall, and the two depths are 11.33"/8"
Joe X Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Similar alternative with increased port area and reduced side clearance using 3x2" PVC pipe: Some bracing to the pipes not shown, sub and port locations are approximate.
Sonic Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Joe 's recommendation is excellent, I like the way he use those 2'' pvc pipes to gain increase port area over the 3'' aero port, also, which allows for the sub to have enough clearance to be over the ports instead of being just next to the port inlet.
