Getting moisture out of Headlights. Advice needed.

Recommended Posts

I have moisture on the inside of my headlights. THey look ugly as hell and after doing my front end black they look even worse.

I was thinking maybe remving them and going throught the bulb opening with a small cut piece of rag on a clothes hanger or something.

I have read about baking my lights to release the sealant..then cleaning them and sealing them up...

But my parents wouldn't be too happy about me using their oven for that...and Im afraid a heat gun will damage the light.

So has anyone succesfully cleaned the inside of their headlight housing through the bulb opening??

I think theyre pretty neat. When the water runs down your crack as you let one out... its like shitting in a crockpot.

i have never cleaned a headlight through the bulb opening, and it just doesnt sound like a real good idea to me. using a heat gun on your headlights to open them is should not damage them. using a heat gun to release them is actually a way a lot of people get their headlights open, as long as you dont have permaseal headlights. if you keep the heat gun moving and just keep working the seal, it should heat it up enough to get them apart. i used the oven to open mine, but i used a heat gun to seal them back up without any problems.

Ok I'll give it a shot. What did you use to seal them after you opened them?

i used this sealant from the retrofit source. it is really easy to use and really good stuff. just push it into the seal channel, heat it up with the heat gun till its warm and soft, put the lense on, hit it a bit longer with the heat gun, clamp the edges, and let it cool.
