First stab at a slot ported enclosure... here's what I am thinking

Recommended Posts

So I am looking at tons of designs and basically am making my own up, something simple but effective. I am going toward the upper side of thespectrum for size (maximum on the specs for the 15" L7 is 6 cu ft). and this is what I came up with:

My dimension maximums are height 21", width 49", and depth is limited only by the bed of my truck. I have an avalanche and already have taken out my midgate and did a enclosure with four 10"s before, so this is just the next stab at it. The last one was sealed so It was ridiculously easy and effective, but of course it just didn't give me what I wanted.

anyway back to my current project, is the design sound? Most of the port designed I have seen the port hooks around to the rear of the enclosure, so I wast sure if that was a requirement or not. Based on the height and length of the port and the enclosure size according to the calculators i have used I only need a length of ~13" for the port so it doesnt reach the back of the enclosure.

Thoughts?

Side Note: I haven't committed to this design either, its just the second draft. Initially I was going to do two seperate boxes of identical specs but I think having one large one with two seperate chambers will eliminate some of the chance for mistakes. I was also toying with the idea of facing the subs in different direction and playing with where the port is locate and the direction it blows. I have only really seen subs and ports facing the cabin in Avalanche boxes, but I am more than willing to play with it if there is a better option.

That's a pretty gnarly box you had! I like the little james bond design. Your port looks a little small, althoug that might be a good thing if you're gonna make the box larger. Wouldn't wanna unload one of them L7s at 26 hz.

2015 Subaru Outback. That is all, I refuse to touch it.

Thanks! I loved that box, mostly because of the scarface emblem... I got a thing for that movie (hence the bad guy name). But since i didnt get any rejection of my box idea I went aheas and built it today.

Took an evening out to pre-cut everything so that I could do the build in a day:

Getting started with glue and silicone based caulk (note the ruler for scale). 5.6 cu ft per sub:

Getting the ports up, 2" at 15" depth... tuning to 30 hz:

Getting the face plate up to go with the rest of the interior walls:

Top on, and vents painted:

Quick test fitting, (the walls are still wet, and wiring hasnt been started:

Box installed in truck, soldered leads, water proofed and covered in plastic:

Speakers in, and test ran... Sweet Jesus it sounds great!!!!!

Another angle:

Next steps: 0 gauge for power to the amp, and 4 gauge from amp to speaker. already have 4 gauge in the box from speaker to terminals.

I have a massive inline fuse with 200 fuses to match.

More to come... ill do some video as soon as I have it all in order

:WTFBubble: ..... Remember a week ago, when I posted the plans and asked for comments and feedback? THEN would have been awesome to hear that. NOW that its all completed, dried, and installed that seems a bit late. I used the port calculators from the12volt site and for my rather novice ear I have no complaints yet. It has only been a few hours though. Who knows I may get ambitious and build another one sooner or later, but as a daily knock-around its doing damn good.
