How do you wire a 12v key-hot pigtail?

Just got a mechman s series 240a universal alt, came set-up with a 12v key-hot pigtail.

Was wondering how to wire it up? Help? Please and thank you

you use that when its externally regulated i believe if not you can unplug that and plug in factory harness, may be wrong

That's why they set it up like that, because the factory plug-in isn't for this alt. Im sure it's internally regulated but i could be wrong as well.

looks like to me you need to find a wire thats hot when the key is in run position and turns off when you cut the key off just my guess

tap into wire from stock harness if its internally regulated just have to find the right one

that's the kind of thought thats been running through my head, just need more input before i actually wire it up.

when i upgraded my alt(not mechman) i had to put a diode to make it work.

something like this. you can also use an idiot light.. if i can find the diagram i will post it

why exactly did you use the diode, if i may ask?

because the alt wouldnt turn on. i plugged it to the ignition and would only get resting voltage. stock cars that dont have an idiot light have a 500 ohm diode to make it turn on. i dint want to look for the wire so i wired the diode and the wire to the ignition and now i get 14.2 voltage

I see, so you also had to wire an external regulator on your alt?
