you answered it yourself. you said you have the bass knob turned all the way up. that's why you dont need so much gain. turn the knob down, and then you'd need to turn the gain up some more. honestly...i wouldnt even use the bass knob. i control it from the cd player which is easier imo. also helps me make sure i stay away from any distortion cuz i definitely dont wanna blow up my shit. if you got 70-71 (70.71 to be exact ) then yeah that's fine...with a 2 ohm load on the amp, that's how you want everything adjusted regardless of how much extra gain you can turn up or however much power you want. if you want more power, you're gonna need another amp. turning it up higher will result in a clipped/distorted signal and blow the amp and/or the subs.

and i lovee useing the bass knob b/c if i want to just listen to highs then i just turn the knob down and if i want bass and highs then i turn it up i do not control it on the cd player i hate doing that is it much easyer to use the bass knob

yeah the knob is all preference really. i usually just have mine down to like -4 or -3 for daily listening. when i wanna show someone it's like...just 1 click to get to it. all good.

It really depends how your 'bass knob' works.

On my old amp it was a 0-18dB boost at 45hz. So turn it up would mash the amp WAY into clipping when it was on a tone. Even for burps. Whoever said bass knobs are for tones, this kind of bass knob will kill your coils quick as.

On my new, big amps it's a remote gain. You set the gain at the amp to the maximum you can do without clipping and then when you plug the 'bass knob' in it cuts the gain right down - the best bit is it's nice and subtle (brutal, brutal amps, 4000w each...) if it's turned down but I know I can turn it to max and know for sure it's not going to clip.

also...when you set that...was the volume turned up to 75-80%? and bass/treble/any other settings turned to 0?

i had the vol at 3/4 of the way and the bass for highs turned all the wayy down and the treble turner all the way up

well i got a package on my door step today it is my excessive amperage 250 amp alternator yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and another thing is i had to turn the gain up on my amp b/c the bass did not hit no where never as hard with it set to 71 volts as it does when the gain is turned up
