4th order help

Recommended Posts

I have 2 sa 12s d4s powered by a soundstream tx1.2600d in a 2007 jeep grand cherokee.

My max dimensions-

w-43.5 inches

h-16 inches

d-20 inches

This is my first time designing a fourth order and needing help. I was thinking around 1.75-2 cubes sealed and 3.75-4 cubes but not sure what to tune it to. Any help would be appreciated and I'm open to any suggestions.

I have a thread going on this topic as well. I contacted Sundown and Jacob recommended 1.75 sealed and 3.5 ported tuned to between 40-45hz

It seems like at 40 the response might be a bit narrow but then again... Jacob knows a hell of a lot more about it that I do lol. I am working up the final details on a build of my own and will be starting on the higher end of that tuning. As for port area... that is where it gets tricky imo.... People recommend 15-18 sq inches per cube of port area, but they also recommend 1/2 of your subs surface area. Those 2 numbers are vastly different. You are looking at 100" if you go 1/2 of surface area, and 63" if you go with 18 per cube.

My build will lean more towards the 18" per cube. If I throw 100" of port in that box tuned to 45hz I would be looking at an extremely long port with a shitload of bends. The one constant I have picked up from all of this is that no one can tell you for sure what will work, and that port area is the key to pulling it all together. It seems that the port is more important than anything else in the build and that there are too many variables to do anything but take an educated guess (and be willing to experiment). Best of luck and be sure to share your results as they will help others.

The dimensions could possibly be slightly larger if needed

And holy shit! I am from Parkersburg lol. I don't live there anymore but I grew up there (graduated in 96 and joined the military) Welcome to the boards man!

actually they are referring to SD or usable cone area. a typical 12 inch sub would have around 480cm², which is around 74 square inches.....

so it would be 37" per sub then? That is more manageable. Puts us closer to 21 inches per cube, but I don't feel as bad about using 18 per cube now. Thanks much!
